Steering wheel removal (Mk1)

Post by artic-steel »

How do you remove the steering wheel on a Mk1 BX, the centre badge does not appear to lift off.
I don't want to damage it so any help will be greatly appreciated.

I've never actually done this, but AFAIK the MK1 steering wheel is permanently attached to the upper part of the steering column. The only way to remove it is to remove the column complete, and then seperate the inner shaft from the outer.
this might be a signature

My memory might not be what it used to be, but this is one job I'll never forget.
Simply split the steering column at the universal joint just above the drivers feet and unbolt it from it's anchors under the dash.

Mine was only a nightmare because I was replacing the pinion valve.
They think it's all over, it is now!
