Alternator Belt

Problem seems to have been fixed, mechanic tightened up the front wheel hubs as there was a bit of movement. He also spotted where the damper is on the steering rack, its held on by a couple of bolts, one of which was loose. So everything tightened up & no more clanking.

Anyone else had a similar clanking sound, only to find out some bolts were a bit loose?

Damper on the stering rack?? Whats that then?
I aint never seen a steering damper on a BX.

I'm sure thats what he called it? Is it just a boot before some sort of mounting? Perhaps he didnt know what it was & just called it what other cars have fitted there? I'll find out from him, incase this proves a useful tip for other members who have a nocking sound they cant seem to locate from the suspension....

Does he mean the hydraulic ram retaining bolts??

(I'm assuming it's power steering)

Thats probably it, he must have presumed wrongly that it was Aa damper.

I'd be looking for a better mechanic.

All PSA cars for about 20 years have had an externally mounted PAS ram. A mistake as fundamental as that makes you wonder what else he has gotten wrong.

Yeah, it does seem a bit odd that a trained mechanic can't spot the difference between a damper and a ram..

I mean, it's got pipes and everyfink!

Dunno, perhaps that was my mistake when i listened to his explanation of what he'd found, i'll find out shortly...
