The oil level gauge on mt Mk1 doesnt work. You switch on the ignition and nothing - start the motor and not a peep.
However! there was an occasion where the gauge did spring to life!
On one occasion where the engine was taking longer to catch starting from cold, the oil gauge jumped to life! but only jerked the needle in time to the engine churns. It never actually read a level of oil.
Before I fully investigate it I am wondering if you guys would know of a simple common fail point for the electric oil level sender? wishful thinking?!?

They all do that mate, they're crap.
The one in the valver is so part time it's laughable, and I replaced all the bloody wiring right back to the guage and the sensor itself.
It's a naff idea TBH, but if you want it to work I'd start with the plug too, down teh back of the engine. They do indeed usually melt / break up / fall off / get covered in oil and shit etc...

On both my BXs I could switch the ignition on and off several times and the oil level gauge would read something slightly different each time.
Ah but I forgot it then switches to oil pressure sensing mode...
