Were the kits easy to fit? Looks like I'll be attempting the ones on the 16v soon.

Make sure the condition of the brake pipe is good within a foot of the calipers before you start.

Trickiest part is removing the outer shell or cup of the bearings, its hard to get a purchase.

If you have access to a MIG welder then run a bead of weld round the outer race you have left in the arm and the combination of the heat and the fact that you can now easily get a long punch on the weld (and hence the race) usually means they fall out in two or three taps for me.

Has there been a massive increase in the price of these kits? I bought two kits a while back (maybe 2 years ago) and they were just over £20 each.

What would be useful would be to be able to buy the bearings and the oil seals only. The tubes, spacers and bolt can all be reused, but the oil seal is usually kaputski.

After some haggeling I think I paid about £18 each for full kits.

You can sometimes get really good bargains on eBay. In Feb 2006 I got two complete kits for £8.27 each (no VAT) and a clutch cable for 99p all from the same seller with total postage of £9.

I installed both kits in my 19TRS which I've had since 1992 and which had been making a worsening creaking noise for some time. All four bearings and seals were in a very poor state, some of them had disintegrated completely.

I was lucky enough to pick up a newly-shelled complete rear arm for £15, plus a full new replacement kit for a fiver, whilst attending Stratford-Upon-Avon Show in August!! Super-duper bargain, methinks! Happy Days!

They certainly have increased, i bought some kits about 1-2 years ago, i think they were £25 each from gsf.

I've noticed other spares seem to change price quite regularly through out the year, they only seem to get more expensive rather than cheaper. I wonder if supply of manufacturing has slowed as well as demand & hence the price rises.

Mulley, did you ever pick up / receive the rear arms from Gazpacho Andulus by the way?

Yes i did, i picked them up at the National last year courtesy of a mate of Simonbx17 from memory? Need to fit one of them to my txd as one side has had a new arm bearing fitted....
