Citroen BX 14TGE £200 for quick sale Edited 1st post

Post by adamskibx »

I feel I need to be more descriptive. Photo's will come when I have worked out how - for some reason my phone does not charge or communicate data, so I have a second identical phone to charge the battery, which also won't transmit data.

It's a 1990 H reg Citroen BX14TGE with 101100 miles on the clock.
It's paintwork is good except for the non-gloss black paint round the windows and boot lip, and laquer peel on the roof.
The steering wheel is not round (Neil has one for £25 delivered)
Droplinks need replacing
It randomly dumped half a bottle of LHM the other day when I dropped the height. This has not been investigated but it has done 300 trouble free miles at 35MPG since, not that MPG is relevant to this problem. I know of one leak from the O/S strut return where I caught the plastic pipe taking off the arm. Due to stressed mental state at the time and working conditions I made a mistake putting the arm together, and so it works perfectly and will do for many thousands of miles but is missing dirt seals, not that it's in a position to attract dirt anyway being blocked off from both sides by the subframe carrier. Botch of the Century? Perhaps - It was a question of non reversible error and bleak financial times in a highly pressurised situation. After 1000 or more miles, there is no sign of any bearing breakdown, and I expect it to last at least half as long as it normally would.

Upper left door hinge needs welding back on, but is fine in it's closed position.

Glovebox lid needs a hinge repair.

One brand new tyre, rest are good but one becoming illegal.

All electrics work except heater fan transistor has failed in the full on position.

One dent in offside front wing where the side repeater is.

Any questions, please ask.. I am in Worcester.

May Tax, November MOT!

I have decided to keep the car because a few hours work seems to have gone a long way for a change and it's looking ready for an MOT now. Decided to ditch the aftermarket hub caps and go for the gloss black steel wheel french look :-) Sorry to anybody who was interested in the car at first.

It's time I parted with this BX now. So if anyone is interested please let me know what you would be willing to offer. Too good to scrap; lot's of life left. You'll need two legs at least as it's a manual with no PAS.

Hi Matt; Yes - Its got around 10 months left and 3 or 4 months tax. It's a very reliable car and nice to drive but needs tidying in places. The only rust I can find that has not been welded is the non-existent struts which separate the inner and outer rear wings, presumably to stop vibration due to passing air, but this does not appear to be a problem.

Other problems. It ideally needs a new steering wheel but I have been offered one by Neil. It has a tendency to steer to the left slightly if you take your hands off the wheel, but this is only slight and not noticeable unless your looking for it. Needs front tyres at some point.

Oh; and the upper NS front door hinge needs welding back on. Most of the metal is good so it is just a case of welding the hinge on with little or no rebuilding of surrounding metal.

I am hoping for in the region of £350. It needed two brand new rear calipers and disks/pads for it's MOT, together with new back box and and center silencer, which of course came to more than this alone. Comes complete with uber rare sunroof wind deflector which works a treat, but the drain pipes need unblocking as it does like to get a bit damp.

Okay; will do. I had a thought; I know why it pulls to the left - It's because steering wheels are quite heavy and this one is not round  The steering of non PAS BX's is actually lighter than PAS cars above 15 mph, so that problem is explained. Also, it made me think that the single spoke is also off centre. If it's central like it should be, it's more than just a design marvel; it provides directional stability as a result of gravity. Quite clever really.
