1.6 TXi auto for sale, 3 careful lady owners.

Post by merlyn » Fri Apr 24, 2015 2:06 pm

Following a brush with redundancy at the beginning or the year I have been forced to relocate to a workplace 20 miles from home and not on a bus route. Consequently I'm no longer able to use public transport if my car is in the garage awaiting parts to be sourced. Whilst the BX has been very reliable it is not getting any younger and the miles are totting up so I realise that this won't always be the case. I have bought myself a Xantia to be going on with and with a very heavy heart need to find a new owner for my BX. I would love to keep it on just for pleasue but really can't afford to right now.

The car passed its MoT yesterday having had some welding done to the sills. There was only one advisory: 'o/s/front flitch metal brake pipe corroded'. The new MoT runs until 08/05/16.
Current mileage is 153020 but the car is still taxed and insured until mid May and I will occasionally be driving it for pleasure.
The cam belt was last changed at 118010 miles so will need doing in the near future. Both radius arm bearings have been done whilst in my care and I had a new battery in Feb 2013 and an alternator in the autumn last year.
I had the tyres and brakes checked in March before starting my long commutes and one tyre was replaced, the others all had plenty of tread and the brake pads were fine.
Welding of both front inner wings was carried out for the MoT in 2014.
The electrics including the sunroof, heater and blower are functioning correctly and all the dashboard lights work! It has the original radio cassette which works fine but could do with a new speaker , or there may just be a loose wire as it's an intermittent problem
The interior is in fabulous condition and far more comfortable than the Xantia.
The guy who did the recent welding kept going on about how tidy the car is underneath and how impressed he was with it.
The car also comes with a few spare window switches, a length of exhaust pipe and a spare wing mirror because the local chavs went through a phase of ripping mine off. There is also a sunroof wind deflector which is currently residing with Tim Leech but I will be collecting it next week. I do have a full set of the correct (rare as hen's teeth) wheel trims which I'm not using as I'm terrified of losing them on the M6. I recently had an lhm pipe (from the pump to the power steering splitter) made by Pleiades because there seemed to be a leak near the pump. The leak stopped before the pipe was fitted but the pipe is in the boot anyway.

On the not-so-good side:

There is corrosion in 3 of the door shuts, there is also 'bubbling up' under the paintwork near the petrol cap (but it hasn't worsened in the 3 years of my ownership) and also in the same area on the nearside.
The front height corrector is a bit stiff.
The offside rear door does not open from the inside, despite having been repaired twice.
The are some scuffs to the paintwork on the bumpers and very minor scratches on the main bodywork.
I have lost the spare key, but I know it's here somewhere.

The car is located at my home in North Staffordshire, 2 miles from J16 of the M6.

I am looking to get £800 and a box of chocolates to ease the parting from my lovely car.

I really had hoped that my car would go to a BX club member but as I've had no takers I'll be listing it on eBay tonight. Hope it goes to someone who appreciates it. :)

Might be worthwhile placing an advert in the Citroënian and the CCC website.

Just wanted to say that I have today sold my BX to a lovely lady (that's 4 careful lady owners now). She seemed very happy with it despite the cobwebs of 3 months standing unused and the fact that an RAC man had to fix the accelarator cable before she could drive it away.
I have directed her to this site so hopefully she will come along for advice when required. Today is her birthday, I hope she looks back on it as a happy one and that my BX gives her some years of good service.

No way would I be a stranger. I don't rule out the possibility of being a BX owner again one day. :D
I've asked her to let me know if she's considering selling it in the future!
