Are these any good for parts?

Post by spangles » Sun Mar 19, 2017 2:51 pm

I have 2 diesel bxs to dispose of. Would anyone be interested in taking them for parts or should I simply scrap them?
I only ask this as I have had trouble getting parts for them recently and it would be a shame to scrap them if they could be of
use. One is a tzd turbo up and running but off the road because I couldn't get a rear off side abs sensor to get an mot. the other is a
19txd not running as the drive shaft has broken. both are 1993. they are both sorn. the 19txd has an mot until september I think.
I would like them taken away ideally together but I'm not Interested in breaking them down here Midhurst,West Sussex.
I don't want anything for them if somebody would like to take them away. If there's no interest then I'll simply scrap them.

If all the tzd needs is a abs sensor then it's far too good to break...or you could just remove the abs bulb, which Is of course your decision.

The txd sounds an easy fix as driveshafts aren't hard to find.

Bx's are getting very hard to find that aren't rotten so let's hope they find homes.

You can't remove the ABS bulb to automatically get an MoT because if it was fitted as standard then the light has to come on at ignition and then go out.

You could however remove the ABS badge from the boot, and a tester may be none the wiser about whether or not it's specced as standard on such an old car...

Or you can mend the ABS cable - they usually fail in the cable rather than the sensor itself (which will be rusted in place and best left undisturbed if you can help it). If you have a soldering iron it's easy enough to splice a new bit of coax cable in without disturbing the sensor.

But the moral of this is as above ^ don't scrap 'em!

It depends if they check the abs bulbs extinguishes or not.... not many do.

As long as when the car fires up no warning lamps stay on it normally isn't an issue.

I don't think you'd get away with just pulling the bulb out these days. It's pretty easy to spot an ABS system from underneath a car.

What you can do is fit a variable resistor into the socket for the sensor, and tweak it to match the resistance of an ABS sensor (moving at less than 20mph). Then, the system will behave perfectly until it goes over 20mph

I have a rear ABS sensor not sure which side, are they sided? why scrap a bx for such a small prob? if you weren't so far away I would take the t/d off your hands, how much of a rush are you in to get shot?

I dunno Tim, I wouldn't have left a problem like that for 8 MoTs, I'd have just fixed it
