erm, no!

If its the right engine capacity then its a 1.8i petrol! No use to man nor beast! It cant be a disel as the 1.7td was never fitted in the Xantia, not much point since it rolled out wiht the 1.9td and is way heavier than the BX!

I'm not looking for an engine at all anymore, having ben shafted for that dodgy 1.7TD i've decided never again, and i'll stick with the engine i know even if that means a full top end rebuild. Better than trying to trust whats been said about a random engine again!

Apologies, didn`t read the description properly. It went for silly money anyway I notice-another fit of auction fever most probably. I`m not a big Xantia fan myself-a couple of years driving them round the auctions didn`t endear them to me. I always thought they were a bit flimsy and badly made. No disrespct to any owners-it`s probably because most of the ones I drove were being sold by some extremely unscrupulous bodge merchants.

I've always felt the Xantia was built like a TANK!

Unfortunatly they handle like a barge and unless you get a 2.0 turbo or V6, they're pretty slow too!

AGAIN, I DONT WANT TO OFFEND ANYBODY!! (glad its a BX forum!!)

I think that's a tad harsh isn't it?

over £200 on a sieve, i think that deffinately calls for it being a dodgy engine (which given its rather poor and broken condition is an understatement) and deffinately being shafted for it! Especially when i could have rebuild the 1.9td head for a very small fraction of the cost!

It all comes to down to what AlanS keeps telling me and what i really should start listening too, never trust an unknown engine! Stick with what you know, and get very suspicious when an engines history keeps changing! I know i should have thrown the whole lot in the bin when i got the head off, but hell by this time i was desperate so figured i'd just go with the head!

At the end of the day, i dont have a car because of that dodgy engine!

Nevertheless, "shafted" implies that it was my intention to rip you off. The truth couldn't be further from that.

I am more shocked than you are about the condition of that engine. After all, I'd driven it more than once in the 405 it came out of. Had I known just how bad it was there's no way I would have either sold it to you, or spent 2 solid days helping you fit it.

I'm sure we've all bought lemons in the past. I know I've had my fair share.

Edit: and what's this about the history changing?
