Mk.1 was the first wave of the BX which was changed, surprisingly to Mk.2 in 1987. The BX Estate was introduced in 1985 so yours is an early example. Should be in Beaulieu Motor Museum as far as I'm concerned! :D

We couldn't possibly tell you, the seller, it's a deep secret!

Seriously though, no-one can tell you what it's worth. A Mark 1 BX (83-86) is far rarer than the Mark 2 (86-94). There are design differences and some prefer the 'purer' design of the original. But with it comes (obviously) greater age and the pipework in particular was originally not as well protected as later pipes. A Mk. 1 Estate is the rarest of them, particularly in RHD, but being a LHD this is slightly less uncommon. What is uncommon is finding one in the UK! White is a great colour for the BX - but not to everyone's taste.

This is a 16 petrol too, which it has to be said is not exactly the most popular engined version (although I have no real problem with them).

So on balance it's a nice BX with rarity/purity going for it. It's low mileage and good condition. But it's still older than most BXs around, so only those willing to get theor hands dirty are likely to consider it.

Price? Anything above £200... but who knows how much? :)

Nice car, but 3 things against it, age, lhd & petrol, how much it'll go for is anyone's guess, perhaps it wont get a single bid

I guestimate £350, it'll be interesting to see what it goes for.

A white non runner Mk2 16TGS esate again LHD with no T&T fetched about £200 last year from memory, I think as its "different" it may attract quite a few Citroen nutters/general weirdos as mentioned before, so of course I would love to own it :D

Mk1 BX = the original, REAL BX! until the marketing men at PSA had their way and diluted the magic, bloating the car with bumpers that no longer matched the styling and a cop out interior design - no mechanical improvements of note.

Petrol engines. Not a bad point at all - ideal for an LPG conversion on such a light car returns some good economy and of course an LPG car has less pollution than petrol AND Diseasel together, faster tan diseasel and as fast as pee troll - win.

An OK condition petrol BX Mk1 Estate in the right colour (white) is a prime example of a rare BX.

BTW - I have no intention of buying this car!! I have a BX remember amigos!?!

Ok, lpg would be great but in all honesty who's going to fork out £1500 to convert that car??? erm no one, unless you're handy like yourself & can do it for a fraction of the cost. I'm surprised no one is running a valver on lpg :D

Sorry a brief OT: As for LPG conversion IMO the GTi auto would be a good candidate as they are a bit, er, thirsty

Dont forget, you dont usually get like for like mpg when you do a lpg conversion, they can be quite a bit lower by upto 20%+ . Conversly i've heard people usually claiming the opposite, mind you, they are normally selling their cars

Just out of interest Graeme, how many mpg does your trs do on lpg?

There are some other detail differences, but mechanically those are quite important as you have to be a bit careful when swapping things like hubs, carriers, driveshafts etc..

That's actually quite a reasonable price for France for such a well cared for example. Normally they want €€€s for anything with four round wheels. I've seen very high mileage BXs priced up high. Perhaps that's changed with Le Credit Crunch though?

There are many subtle differences between the Mk.1 & 2 as David points out. I've found this out when ordering parts which, when they come are invariably for the later models and don't quite fit.

That certainly tallys with my recent car buying trip in France (last week in SW France). I was stunned at the prices. Cars so much more expensive than I would expect to see here. One exampe was a Pug 504 truck with trees growing in the back and looking fir for scrap for 2000 euros!

Well 800 euros was indeed a good price. But on the other hand there are so many BXs in France that depreciation is strong. There s also the fact that it is often known to the general French public as grandpa's car (even though I am now convinced that it s much more than that).
As for the general price of cars in France compared with UK prices, don t forget that from 2001 to 2008, £1 remained more or less 1.5 euros, and that used cars prices in France did not change when £1 became closer to 1 euro in recent months. Even new cars, until 3 months ago, were much cheaper in the UK. Check C5, 407, or Laguna on autotrader.co.uk and then on french websites... You might be surprised !
