BX phase 1 for sale

Post by Charlotte »

In my travels in the Medway auto trade, I have come across a phase 1. Going to look at it tomorrow.

What I know:

It has had one owner from new, and a supposed 25k miles.
It's a C reg (like me)
It has been sitting for a long time, and no-one has yet looked at the hydraulics, the garage in question is not Cit-savvy.
It has the nasty 1400 layback engine in it.
It's just been MOT'd but not taxed.
My mate who did the MOT says the exhaust has a slight leak, the discs are rusty where it has been standing and it needs 3 tyres (close to limit).

He wants £800 for it. I actually couldn't hold back the laughter. I know it's low mileage and what not, but it's going to need a LOT of work just hearing what the guy who bought it says. He didn't know what a sphere was when I asked when they were last replaced...

But I'm still going for a look!

nasty 1400, BX's with this lump fitted have there good points,

clutch is very easy as you dont split the gearbox from the engine, you just remove the transfer box and clutch houseing in situe, very easy light work

also they have a timing chain (not cam belt) easy to get at in situe

£800 for a 14E is far too much especially if its been standing a while, but if its mint then who knows.
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

Sounds a bit steep to me too, halve that figure.

There's a BX14 for sale here too at a ridiculous price. One owner car in that fetching pale metallic blue, 45k miles, new TÜV (mot). Seller wants €1800. He wouldn't even sell it for half that I reckon

I used to have a Leader with the layback engine. Not the best engine in the world but it was a super little car.

You did say it had it's good points though, which they do not.
Except for use as an unbelievably heavy paperweight.

TU FTW.
Suitcase engine FTL.
