It is mate, and a very nice one at that, has Gti seats, 16v rubbing strips, steering wheel and gearknob. Available in Blue Grey and like a Champagne colour only.

He is negotiable and it has 12 months MOT so could be a bargain.

Worth a look, from the conversation we had yesterday I think at a push he may go to £250? so any car with a year MOT is worth that, The Athena has power steering, electric windows (front) and sunroof, central locking etc.

I understand that there was some rust in the boot which was cut out and welded up for its last MOT, so one less thing to worry about.

Did anyone take a piccy of this car at Wetherby on Sunday?

Athena

Hi Tim,

This sounds nice, in you opinion, how straight was it? Cosmetically too. Would it impress a sister-in-law looking for a cheap runabout I wonder?

I didnt go over it with a fine toothe comb, from what I saw it has the typical dents and scrapes on a BX of that age but looked a quite tidy car and again with 12 months MOT its good value.

Athena 1.6

Post by Tinkley »

I'm the guy who bought the Athena on your forum. I spotted it the day after some silly young lady pulled out
in front of me the evening before about 20 feet in front of me! Ooops no MOT by the end of the week.

I was dring a BX Athena I bought in 04 with 54k on it and FSH. It rewrded my tlc by throwing a rod so I put a
Vege full recon into it. It has done 64k on the recon including a running in trip to Lake Garda with a dinghy behind
43 mpg and yes it was no toll roads and over the Alps.

It has only let me down twice - fan thermostat and alternator. Done all the usual, spheres, trailing arm bearings
front brake pipes, cooling hoses etc etc put catalyst in petrol tank. It has done 49-50 mpg on many occassions.

It was shunted by a two week old Beemer demonstartor two years ago and written off but the tow bar saved it
though try finding a green tinted rear light. So now it has lots more damage at the front - headlight, indicator,
bumper, bonnet, wing(s) bonnet mounts and the geometry is still OK. I think they will try and write it off again.
Saw the Athena for sale and bought it unseen. First drive (no test drive) was home to North Hants a mere 220
miles. Hey the guy even left enough fuel to do the trip! Ride like a brick on rubber balls - needs all the spheres
doing and LHM change...also a cam belt change as its a bit rattly on occassion low down. Otherwise seems
pretty good lots of stuff changed already and most stuff works OK.

MMmm the residual could be interesting especially as a Meteor went for 900 with 63k on it and my old Athena
was basically mechanically like a 5 or 6 year old car.

Anyway first BX a 14RE with 150C engine then Athena fiollowed by Athena!!!!!!! Most powerful 1.6 they made too
with the B2C engine 94 ps. The 14 did 175k til local vandals tried to steal it and cooked the head gasket!!!!
It hated LRP too so an unleaded version or diesel was on the shoppping list after trying some modern cars on test
drives.
