How often do we get snow ... ?

Do you live on a remote farm somewhere in the Australian outback ... most people that get a 4x4 don't actually need one.

Last time I checked you can drive a front wheel drive car in the snow.

I'm ashamed to admit that the only car I could get down a 4 mile forest track in Scotland in proper snow was..........

a Fiat Panda 4x4

I put two Range Rover's in a field and beached a 2cv that winter

4x4 bxs are rare, but they do appear on ebay from time to time.

I drove one once, but I prefer the GTI with front wheel drive as it is much more lively and better on fuel.

and as Tourist said, Bx 4x4s break. Expensively.

Paul - I don't believe they even exist - other than in photos and I understand even they require a great deal of mechanical nous to maintain ;-))

BX 4x4 is without a doubt the most expensive to maintain of the lot, more so than a 16V.

Exhaust syste is unique and unobtainable - so factor on getting one made custom.

Trasfer box and shafts are made of pure unobtainum and Quality Street foil wrappers - if a transfer box strips its splines, sorry read WHEN a transfer box strips its splines, be prepared for the car to be off the road for a very long time whilst you find a replacement or even buy a new one from Citroen (about £2k).

If you really want a 4x4 buy something else for the money.
