Thanks everyone - it's certainly been a marathon hunt.
The car zipped along the M25/A2 at a very easy 80mph on its test-run home yesterday, returning about 50mpg.
It's such a relief to have power-steering again. Having said that the unassisted steering of my 17 was much steadier at high speeds - but I rarely go over seventy these days, other than as a rather brutal road test!
I've decided to put my old 17 on ebay for spares or repairs rather than take it straight to the breakers. I'll put up some photos later.
My new project is to restore my old Husqvarna xp60 chainsaw which should keep me occupied for a few weeks.
I'm off for a drive now.
