BX 1.9D Estate up for grabs. (free)

Hi, Thought i'd just post this offer before it goes to the scrap yard,

I have a BX 1.9D Estate, F reg, metallic grey. If some one wants it come and take it away. It's located in mid Devon and although it has been laid up for a year I have regularly started it up and the other day it ran out of diesel so if you want it bring some diesel or I'll get it running for a £5.

It served me well for a few years but I now have a ZX so it is not needed.
Its no looker, there's a few small dents around the body and the last owner had the drivers door fold back on the front wing so that looks ugly although it never bothered me.

It has towbar and the central locking works and the front elec windows. the heater is fantastic in the winter.

Good engine, doesn't smoke or lose water.

Mot wise, I checked it before we got the ZX, and it will need some tyres and one of the front driveshaft gaiters is split and the exhaust might need a going over.

Questions welcome but no timewasters please,

Hi, Took ages to find this pic. It was took just before I stopped using it.

It shows the worst side of the car, the other side is pretty clean.


Just to mention, you will need a trailer to take it away as it has no mot or tax and has at least one tyre at legal minimum.

I suspect a key factor with taking on this car is the hydraulic pipework and how much has been replaced over time: like all pre-89 BXs it will originally have been fitted with pipes without the plastic coating, which retards corrosion, but doesn't ultimately prevent it. This is of particular importance on the front-to-rear suspension/brake piping.

If it's got the original pipework , then it will almost certainly need a fair amount of re-piping. If it's had replacement in plastic coated pipe, then it may not immediately need so much, and if pipework has been extensively replaced in kunifer then it could need much less.

This is not intended as a damper on anyone wishing to take on the car, just a reminder of an important factor to bear in mind. 1.9D BX estates are fantastic workhorses capable of very high mileages if kept up to the mark, and some earlier cars I've seen in metallic finishes have seemed very resistant to corrosion - very much more so than later cars.
Back on two wheels and pedal power for the moment.

Since I've had a couple of these cars I built up a fair amount of spare bits.

I had to replace the rear hydrulic pipes due to someone else not placing them correctly and had a hole worn in one by the suspension arms.

Although I replaced the pipes with metal ones off a previous car they were in good condition, infact if I can remember all the pipes on the car are good as I swapped all the good bits of another estate before scrapping it.

It does have a problem with the front wanting to rise all the way to the top and stay there for a while before settling to the correct level.

Power steering is fine and the brakes will put your nose on the windsceen if you even breath on the pedal, something i cant say about my ZX. It has had a change of hydrulic pump as the last one started to give out. I've put a new clutch in and a change of gearbox as the diff decided to take a walk out of the casing coming home from Salisbury one day.

As I now have the ZX I dont need any BX bits and have filled the BX boot with as much as I can find which includes:

A box of interior bits and bobs including several good wing mirrors
a couple of headlights, two rear light assemblys from a bx saloon and rear brake caliper and disc, several spheres and a complete emergency pressure valve assembly.

I also have a complete engine minus the head as I had to use it for the ZX. The spare engine was sound and came from my previous bx saloon.

and of course I also still have the old gearbox complete with hole in the diff casing.

All this has to go hopefully to someone who will enjoy the car as much as I did, sadly I need the space.

Sounds like a bargain to me, especially with all those parts a well. Hopefully it can be saved.
