Filler neck - and/or advice

Post by Philip Chidlow »

I was going to post a request a week ago, but now I have passed the car on I still feel it my duty to at least ask for the benefit of the 14's new owner, Matt, who accompanied Ian 'Dollywobbler' on the BXagon...

Does anyone know of a Citroen breakers near them, who they could call to see if they might have a good or rescuable s/hand (or nearly new!) fuel filler neck for a BX14... Alternatively if anyone out there has one they could sell on...

OR, could someone perhaps post a description on how a fuel filler neck from another (larger tanked) BX might fit. For instance, the later petrols had the 'long range tank' fitted... is it possible to just add that, with the shorter neck pipe (? I guess?) instead?

I said I'd do what I could to help sort this problem. The car was a bargain at the price, but still needs time and money spending on it... and this filler issue is niggling thanks to lack of a replacement part. I'm sure Matt will need some other advice and parts as his BXperience grows, so I have suggested he registers with the BXC!

yep, straight forward too, from donor remove additional long range tank (2 bolts and the strap) with filler neck attached (three screw behind filler flap), and the pipes to the main tank included the fume catcher. Fit to other car.

Or buy new neck from Citroen? A second hand neck will still be rusty/close to knackered, its down to a lack of plastic wheel arch in the rear so mud sits atop the filler neck.

Thanks, Vanny. I did phone Citroen at Colchester and they can't supply anymore. No longer available it would seem!

Doesn't the 14 have a smaller than normal fuel tank though, or does this not make any difference when fitting the extra tank?

Makes no difference at all mate.

Alas I have no good filler necks. Every scrapper I have in stock is fubar..

Citroen could still supply them at the start of the year, I know since the valver has one!

Might be worth giving a cit dealer in France a ring! Silly as it sounds there's one in Calais, that I forget the name of right now... but the dude there speaks excellent english and is unbelievably helpful, to the extent he's posted me stuff in the past direct, and taken the cost of posting from his profit margin.

As the new owner of said car, what would be needed to fit the extra tank?

Will try French contacts.

If I'd have known I'd have bought one from that scrappy on the BXAGON.

D'oh!

Reckon the 14 is pretty good, Matt Fenwick would have trouble keeping up with me in it lol.

Now you mention it...

Welcome along Ami Matt by the way! I know what you mean about the 14, I was pleasantly surprised by the responsiveness of John Rolfe's 14, especially after the slow revving nature of a diesel.

Hope you enjoy your entry into BX ownership, and I'll let you know when I'm down in your area to drop off that Xantia wing and radiator.

Is it just the metal part you need - the bit that the flap locks into?

Not a lot really, the tank itself, the large pipe from extra tank to main tank, a couple of bolts and the strap, although the straps are always rotted out, but easy to make, it's literally just a strip of metal.

I made a new one for mine in less than ten minutes using aerosnips and some ally plate.

Aye its a lighweightwhiterocketship, or words to that effect. Still baffled by the odd chicken wire bar-b-que thing stuck on the inside of the bonnet. I'll Try some burgers on it at the weekend and maybe toast some baps too :P

Has anyone got any decent door speakers? Only mine are buzz tastic.

John's 14 was the basest base model I've ever seen. I don't think he even had reclining seats, but it still flew up the mountain tho.

Light weight is were its at...apparently

Despite the fact it appeared to be consuming oil at about the same rate it was going through petrol...
Don't know what the barbecue bit is for - I wonder whether it could be a stiffener? My unrefined diesel has sound insulation so can't see whether that also has it. Any chance of a photo?

Its clearly visable on the underbonnet shot of the St Tropez posted in the image gallery by Tim.

Any ideas? It seems to be Earthed whatever it is, supposed that's a good safety feature for a Bar-B-Q grill, means I won't get a shock when I flip the burgers with my trusty fish slice.

About time you got signed up here Matt! Look forward to checking out your St Tropez at some point.

I doubt you'll find good second-hand speakers - they just disintegrate with time. Get yourself to an ICE specialist and see what they've got - bearing in mind the warning I gave you about speakers that are too large not fitting...
