I scrapped a Rover 218SD Turbo today, only 60 on the clock and its ran perfect, such a waste. I now its the 1769 engine but could have been of use.
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

Shame you never offered it to anyone then Tim.

If so, then it wouldn't have been able to be sold on, so what's the point in mentioning it?

Tim, do you know which yard the car would have gone to? Scrappies are allowed to recyle various items from a car before it gets crushed, even under the scrap allowance system. So the engine may be available if the scrappy is contacted.

They havent colleced it yet Matt, they should be collecting it next week, but I am away on holiday so not sure I will be around. It would make an ideal donor for your TZD

Does anyone know if its identical to the one that would be in a TZD, the only reason i ask is that the one's fitted to rovers only seem to produce 87bhp rather than the usual 90 as fitted to the citroen?

Scotty, is your question directed at David or one of us down derbyshire way?

Hi Mulley,
I've just checked in an old Parkers Guide and it states 88 BHP, Also this TECHNICAL spec. confirms that its 88 BHP !
I'd see no reason for it being a different unit as its the PSA engine and should be identical to the TZD/DTR Turbolump I suspect it may be just possibly down to the size/position of the Air cooled inter-cooler.
IIRC the Rover is smaller and is mounted either in front of or adjacent to the main water cooling radiator as against on top of the engine/above the cam-cover as fitted to the TZD/DTR turbo and that it has the large ducted air feed (under the bonnet) which may push the air thro' quicker by a 'Ram' effect, also the cooled air has a shorter journey to travel before entering the inlet manifold and thus 'may' gain an extra 2 BHP over the Rover set up this way :?:

Also note that the Pug-309TD (With the same engine) did not have an Air-cooled inter-cooler and the BHP was only 78 BHP for that unit in the Pug :(

Its only my thoughts/theory but if anyone has a better explanation please post yours and I would be keen to read/know if its something else :?:

I remember when lifting the bonnet that the intercooler was mounted next to the radiator at the front, it pulls very strongly and was quite happy to sit at 80+ on the way home.
