I don't see that the exhaust should be such a big problem.

OK, so you can't just buy a new one and bolt it on, but as long as you have the old one you can patch it up or get replacement sections made.

The condition of the transfer box is a bigger issue, but if that is OK it should not be so different to a normal bx, just more thirsty.

If all fails, just convert it back to FWD and fit snow tyres in the winter.
