BX 1.4 TGE 1990 33K FSH Superb condition £895

Post by Pol64 »

Hi

I am selling my BX which I bought recently from a friend.
It is in excellent condition as you will see from the photos.

Please follow this link or copy and paste into address bar

http://s992.photobucket.com/albums/af45 ... =slideshow

Silver with cloth interior, 5 gears, original blaupunkt radio cassette

Towbar

Genuine 33k, I am using the car so it will go up

Full service history

MOT to March 2011 and taxed to October

I really cant find much to fault the car, there is no rust, hardly any marks on it, inside or out. It drives really well and is economical.

This car can be used as a daily car or as a cherished rare virtual concours car. I have BX fitted mats coming for it, hopefully soon.

I am still looking for original wheel covers, which would finish it off beautifully.

Its on this site first for a genuine BX enthusiast to snap up.

I am looking for £895 no offers, seriously doubt there can be many better examples out there.

Please call Paul on 07876258355 if you want to discuss viewing or making an offer. I am near Biggar which is in Scotland between Edinburgh and Glasgow. I can meet you or pick you up if you are coming on a train or plane.

Cheers

Looks like a really nice car, i suspect you wont have much luck on this forum for the sort of money that you want, but the best of luck to your sale though, i'm always prepared to be wrong.

Have to agree, I think £1000 for a 1.4 engined BX is going to be a big ask, i think maybe ebay or the classifieds may be of help.

Now on e-bay with an absolute daft price tbh

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1990-CITROEN-BX-1 ... 439fba8d14

I reckon this car is worth £800 absolute tops, & then only if you wanted a 1400. It would be nice to be proved wrong as perhaps decent prices may help preserve the remaining models, might have to start stocking up on some

Sooner or later prices will have to reflect maintenance costs. This might be sooner, but I hope the car makes the money.

The problem is, you can still buy taxed and tested ready to use 16v or TZD for 600-900 quid quite easily.

Unless prices for these cars start to change, then 14's and 16's are just not going to be making that money i feel.

Personal opinion obviously.

But look at CX's. They are undoubtedly seen as a classic citroen (which not all BX's are yet) but MOT'd useable examples can still be had for 750 quid.

rare and desireable doesnt always mean valuable.

Very true - I suppose what will really happen is that prices won't increase much until the only ones left are in the hands of enthusiasts.

There are those of us who aren't so interested in owning 'Valvers'. I quite like the idea of a diesel CX, but for less than 3 or 4 grand a large proportion of any price paid would be for the fresh air filling the spaces where metal used to be.

I think a decent Valver in similar condition to this 14 would have to be a couple of grand at least? I'd possibly pay that for a top of the range turbo diesel with fsh...

A 14 (with no-PAS bear in mind) is not everyone's cup of tea, but an immaculate BX is more likely to be. I have to say, realistically the 'value' of this car is only what someone is willing to pay. And even £700 will be a lot to expect unfortunately... I remember three years ago that 16TGS Auto with PAS and one-owner, full main-dealer SH with 23k miles in mint condition (I kid thee not) that was on here advertised for £600 didn't sell after weeks and weeks- I ended up buying it for £475 I think (it was a steal). Sold later - for £700 - and then again, for I believe a similar amount (with 33k on it at that point)... BX's are not so rare or desirable at the moment (unlike say Visas or GS/GSA's) so prices higher than that £700-800 'barrier' are not generally achievable.

Shame, as the car (ie the BX as a whole) deserves more... time will tell. Best of luck with the sale.

But bear in mind, (any potential new owner) that as soon as you start using the car (and why else would you want it?) and the miles and wear and tear creep up you will encounter something most BX owners no longer care or worry about: depreciation...

I personally like 14,s. They have a simple charm but i also agree that there at the bottom of the value ladder. Not everybody wants to go screaming round in a 16valver.Hope he can sell it for a good price as it will show that there is now genuine interest in the classic car world for them and hopefully people still running them as "old bangers" wont just scrap them.It has happened to stuff like Mk2 Escorts.

If pressed I would say the top of the ladder isn't necessarily the 16V these days: I would suggest a low mileage, fully maintained and good condition TZD turbo hatch or estate would command top dollar. One was advertised and sold on here recently for over £800 IIRC. And probably worth every penny.

Yes your right, they probably are the best compromise between performance, economy and comfort.
I wont turn away any Bx as they all have their own merits, but the price has to reflect each cars own merits/condition and desireablity.

Any non GTi/16v petrol bx is hard to sell for decent money, the 14 benefits from good economy and the cheaper tax bracket, but no power steering and the buzzy engine can put people off, it didnt me as I liked my St Tropez alot but have to confess to preferring the 16/19 XU powered engines even with the auto choke!

Paul, if your car doesnt sell on e-bay, best place to advertise your car is on car & classic website, its free & hopefully may generate a sale, as long as you're a bit more flexible on price, then it should hopefully sell, otherwise just keep it & enjoy :D
