Post by ren16tx »

My old K plate valver had one too. Believe it was because they were nearing the end of production and doing another batch of plastic bonnets was going to cost more than knocking some up in steel. This could be nonsense and potentially related to EU regs changes instead....

There's all sorts of thoughts as to why, but just to confuse matters some early MK1 BX's had steel bonnets too !

I had a 19RD which a steel bonnet and a 19DTR with a plastic one, both were the long nosed type and on a 'C' plate/reg.

Also the later steel bonnets which were used on the likes of the TXD models were the short nosed type.

So there you have have it, no real reason or logic behind as to why

I was always under the impression it was a bit of a parts bin special, ie left over from Mk1. But it would make a lot of sence to press some up with existing tooling if you ran out of GFRP ones.
