Most of us are a fairly decent bunch round these parts and it's not like we're having a go fo no reason.
If the truth had been declared from day one, this thread would just be about the cars viability as a fixer upper or whether it would have been better for parts.
It's the blatant and deliberate deceit that's got everyone's back up!
This clearly shows that the insurance company reported it and DVLA had ordered a VIC to be done:
You would have sent the insurance company the V5 to get your payout (or told them it was lost, in which case they would have checked ownership etc. directly) and they would have returned it to DVLA. You then cannot get a new V5 until VOSA have told them to remove the VIC Marker AND you have sent them the pass certificate.
I suspect the bidders first time round had seen the info above and confronted you which is why you went and got it done.
Any other info required can be found here: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Bu ... DG_4022107
The prosecution rests it's case.
@scarecrow... the VIC was introduced in '03 so you just missed it.

Sarah, some people have fitted the 1.9 turbo, Mat's got one in his estate. The XM/Xantia 2.1 turbo has also been fitted by a few people as well, although that does require a fair bit of alteration to get it to fit from what i understand.
The factory turbo was just the 1.7 as per JayW.
There were also the 1.7 & 1.9 normally aspirated diesel engines also. There are some power differences between the MK1 & Mk2 1.9 normally aspirated diesels, with the MK2's having more power.
I don't think the MK1's came with a 1.7 normally aspirated diesel did they?

I've heard various reports that it wasn't that bad, never driven one myself. I know the 1.9 auto is fairly slow, i wonder how slooooooow it would be with just the 1.7 n/a fitted

I scrapped it out of spite and because of a run-in with some wheel clampers. I actually hated that car at times. It was triton green, fairly battered, and with no PAS. Only the second car I've ever bought from a dealer, and possibly the last (the first was a Vauxhall Viva 2 from Charlies Cheapies when I was 18 - that only ran on 3 cylinders and lasted a couple of weeks). Not that private sellers are much better...

Only a couple of horses though, or 3, or 4 depending which chart you read!MULLEY wrote: There are some power differences between the MK1 & Mk2 1.9 normally aspirated diesels, with the MK2's having more power.
Although I guess when you've got next to bugger all BHP in the first place a couple more can only be a good thing!
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!
Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Yay, fame (of sorts!)MULLEY wrote:Sarah, some people have fitted the 1.9 turbo, Mat's got one in his estate.
My personal opinion - it doesn't take much to wite off an old car from a financial point of view so I wouldn't be worried about that actual fact. It's just tha fcat it's come out afterwards, for whatever reason, that has got people's backs up. Anyway, it's all out in the open now, there is a mention in the description of a strange noise - I for one would want to hear it myself before bidding.
It could have been a lot more misleading description!
What does CAT mean?
No idea what CAT means - but as my car is now VICd and passed - does this still apply? Neither write off affected engine, axles, chassis, or passenger areas.
Is this so serious?
