I'll have a look - almost certainly got one, might have two. Will look when it stops raining for long enough to get out to the barn without drowning...

I'm intrigued - what are you planning?

I did have an idea about building an original looking clock that got the time from the MSF time signal, but best not mention that to electrokid otherwise he'll take it as a challenge!

TBH Mat i only want the actual LCD glass bit out of them. Hence why broken or damaged ones are fine.

Series 2 CX's have a 4 panel digital display that show water temp, oil temp, time and outside temp.

They always fail one way or another (hardly surprising after 23 years)
but mine seem to have lost the liquid from them, they all appear to be the same actual front glass unit. So im hpoin that the BX ones are the same and i can fashion a decent repair with the bits from old BX clocks.

Trying to find replacement complete units is rare for the CX and even rarer that they work and MIGHTY expensive when you do.

Found one, might have another in the spares car down the field.
PM me your address and I'll send what I've got.

Whilst looking for that, came across some stuff I forgot I had, including some new old stock CX bits, if you happen to know of anyone who might be interested.
They include:
2 x water pumps
1 x complete clutch (2.5 diesel I think)
Four lumps of exhaust (two front boxes, two back boxes) - I might be able to decipher which model they're for given time. They're original Cit bits I think, not repro.
1 x estate rear wing/quarter panel - I forget which side.
Some other small stuff I can sort through if you like.

Nah - got enough of them at the mo... Ta
They always fail one way or another
Try cleaning the zebra strip and the PCB connections with... oooo.... some kind of alcohol - just a single wipe on the LCD itself because the connections can easily be worn out. Reassemble as it was designed - the pressure on the zebra strip can be very critical.

Ta on the avatar, its a great hero of mine, the late Hunter S Thompson.

As for the ribbin strips, ive no issues at all with how to clean it all up and re-assemble, i do that to LCD's on multi meters most days of the week. Its just the fact that the front LCD screens although not broken seem to have lost most of their liquid. I will try and get some pics tomorrow to illustrate the point.

It's just occurred to me...
I assumed you were talking about BX clocks. Of which I've now found two. But BX clocks are LED not LCD...
Do you still want them?

I've made a list of the various CX, BX, AX and unidentified bits I've got, with part numbers where available. Will post it probably tomorrow in a couple of separate threads.

It's quite a long list!

That is unusual - they usually start to delaminate and go black at the corners first. Maybe they have been - or are being blasted with DC - if there's a cap or caps in series with the LCD drive lines they might have gone leaky. I've seen a couple of batches of ceramic 0.1?F caps that only took a matter of months to become 500? resistors - used in quantity as powerline decouplers on a memory card that really screwed things up.
But BX clocks are LED not LCD...
Mine is LCD with a bulb behind with a green filter - it looked like LED to me which is why I didn't try to fix it for ages (it would come on briefly if I was hammering it round a lefthander and caught a bump at the same time). When I did get around to fixing it I found it was just a bulb needing replacement.

Ah, that makes sense - it wouldn't need a bulb in the back if it was LED would it... I hadn't made the connection. Speaking of which, you wouldn't happen to know what connections I'd need to make on the back of one to wire it into a different vehicle would you? I've been toying with sticking one in the H van but was convinced I'd wire it up wrong and blow it to bits...

I'm pretty sure it's just 3 - 0v / ground, a +12v from the battery which keeps the clock running when everything else is off, and a +12v which just drives the bulb - and on the BX is connected to 'ignition'.

As long as you get the 0v / ground connection right you won't pop anything because the other 2 wires are both +12v.

There are some reasonable aftermarket clocks which often have extras such as temp / ice warning etc - might be easier for the H van.
