Post by becky070 »

Hope someone can help - i am trying to find a bx i used to own, it was a red bx14re rebadged as a 16v gti 4x4! in a moment of madness i swapped it for an opal manta in chesterfield a few years ago and now wish to find this car again, regardless of condition. if anyone knows the whereabouts of this car i would much appreciate it. the reg is B403HJM. thanks

I'd say that about 10% of BX's are owned by "Enthusiasts", the rest are just cars. I reckon only 0.1% of BX's owners are members here (and associated clubs) so the likelihood of someone actually recognising that registration number is very slim.

If you're really desperate to know, you can write to DVLA requesting the last known keepers details (upon payment of the correct fee).

thirteen years is a long time for any BX (esp a 1.4) to be stored awaiting restoration - I reckon it's now your washing machine or your fridge!

That's most likely because the last recorded keeper has probably told them they don't have it anymore and therefor there is no known keeper.

Unfortunately there's hundreds of thousands of lost cars out there simply because the paperwork was never done when they were scrapped. This is part of the reason the new "inform us or be fined" rules came into force in 2002 (asside of the obvious money making implications).

DVLA can't simply wipe them off the books incase they surface again. However i suspect they will eventually have an amnesty on these old motors and then wipe the records for any phantoms not registered for over 10 years for example. Then (of course) they could charge you to get your cars identity back if it should surface at a later date (by way of VIC's and fees etc).

All these phantoms still count towards the statistical ownership figures for the country tho...

Hi Becky,

I have to agree with the guys on here that I sadly I expect the car to be long dead now, we at the CCC have the same access as anyone else, its not showing as scrapped but I imagine it has been but the paperwork was not filled out.

Why not look out for another BX, I haven't seen a Mk1 14RE for a long time!
