True - my insurance quoted an extra £40 a year if it resulted in a 5% power increase as determined by a garage.

Carbs are funny things, i'm inclined to leave well alone if its behaving itself as a bit of unqualified tuning can really mess things up!
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

Quite agree Tim. Though I'm not averse to a fiddle with the mixture settings on my chainsaw.

Haha cant see them bringing an emissions test on one of them then. My 16TRS was a pain from day one as someone had fiddled with the carb, i swopped it for one that was known to be good and set up ok and its SO much better.

Unfortunately 2 strokes proportionally chuck out more bad emissions than any other type of engine.

I'd just like to cure the hot starting/running issues.
If that thick fibre washer between the heated manifold and the carb is missing that'll cause the problem.

I've looked at the bottom of the carb before and wondered if that's where my invisible water leak is as it's pretty gacky down there. If it is missing the heat-proof gasket it's been missing it for about 7 years, as that's the only time I can see in the history that it might have had to come off.

I am tempted to have a go myself and just put the AX Carb and manifold onto the 14 and see how it goes. In fact you might be able to help me identify the Weber? There appears to be no identification on the Carb., but it's a standard Weber upgrade for an AX GT.... any ideas please?

Thanks. That's near the coal yard isn't it? I might take it down tomorrow to see what they say.

The type number on Weber carbs is stamped on one of the visible faces on the bottom flange. let me know the full number and if I have info on it I'll photocopy and send it to you.

Not sure about the coal yard, but the industrial estate is just past the cafe on the right going from Medway towards Newington,i think there is a nursery on the opposite side of the road.

He converted my mates Volvo PV from twin SU to twin Weber, made a superb job. He also has a rolling road.

A reference - I love a garage with a reference! I'll try to get down there today and see what they think. Thanks.

The difference in the cams between an AX GT and a BX really isn\'t that much, and not enough to make a massive difference. As long as it\'s setup correctly, the biggest difference comes from the fact you have twin chokes, not just a single.
Remember the AX GT has a shorter FD, shorter ratios, lighter flywheel and weighs about 300kg less than the BX!

It\'s a good mod to do to get it run solidly IMO, and short of going silly with twin carbs, it\'s the best bang per buck mod you can do. As long as it\'s setup correctly!
