WTB: Black Rear Wiper Switch

Post by m_2975 »

Hi there,

It's been a while since I was last on here. Have been pursuing other things now but I still have two mint BX's and a good AX.

Anyway, I'm looking for a black rear wiper switch for a series 2. It needs to be the one that holds in for intermittent wipe not the later one press per wipe version.

I'm happy to pay via paypal or anything you like.

Thanks

Hello again Michael, nice to see you back.

I'm breaking an '89 GTI today - just pausing for lunch - I'll have a look. Otherwise I've got boxes of stuff that I 'inherited' - no promises but should be something there.

Thanks Todd.

You wouldn't also happen to have any GTI fog light inserts there would you? I don't need the fog lights.

I may be wrong, but I don't think UK spec BXs ever had intermittant rear wipe. While the switch is pushed, the squirter runs and the wiper wipes.

I would like intermittant on mine, but never got round to making it.

No joy I'm afraid. I've got a few wipe/wash switches but none are intermittant.
I was starting to wonder whether they existed til I tried the one on my 16v and it is indeed intermittant. No idea what models had it and why. I'd never noticed before!
It's amazing the detail we go into here. After spending today pulling the innards out of a BX I realise there's still a whole universe in there which I don't fully comprehend! All that coloured Spaghetti behind the dash - what does that do? I hate to think what modern cars must be like.

I'll have a look for the inserts - are they the plastic mounts for the fog-lights? The ones on the GTI slaughter today were cactus unfortunately.

All estates had "stay on" switches, all breaks had push to operate let go to stop switches AFAIK.
Never seen a hatch over here that has the stay on feature, largely since they dont need it if you're doing more than 10MPH.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Thanks anyway? Does anyone else happen to have one out of a ph1 16V or an estate with a black dash?

Plan B will to be to paint the one I have in grey. I painted a grey clock tray and must say it's like new.

Yes they're plastic and they simply click into the bumper. Anyone please??

Thanks Richard. I have a collection of them without the intermittent feature too. Sadly one can't change the front over from a non intermittent to an intermittent as they are completely different with a spring loading it on the outside instead if internally.

The reason I'm after it is because I am rebuilding my red estate. After 350k kms of hard work and little protection from the Australian sun the interior was totally stuffed. I had another complete interior out of my late TZI (RIP!) so I have put it into it but only have this minor wash wipe switch problem. Can probably rewire it if I absolutely have to. I have rewired most of the rest of the car with delay off interior lamps (available on later models), delay off cooling fan relay, light sensing headlamps, steering wheel radio controls etc.
