FOR SALE-CITROEN BX 14 PREVIEW MOT 8/11 Tax 2/11 LAST CHANCE

Post by gio3330 »

HI all!
I have here for sale my dad's white BX. It is in lovely clean condition, with a long MOT to next August and tax to Feb - ready to drive away!
It's only covered 90k miles, and has four new tyres. It has a full service history (inc. cambelt) as well as new pump, spheres and exhaust! Hydraulically tip top
Interior wise it is perfect (this model has the GTi interior), with the only niggles being a burnt dashboard lightbulb (affecting only the clock) and a squeaky heating fan, which I will try and sort out before sold.
Exterior-wise, there are some rust bubbles on the rear side panel, but otherwise it is in very good condition. Sills are very solid, as is the rest of the car.
As my dad has emigrated today (and my growing Citroën collection leaves me with no more room at the inn!), it has sadly got to go.
I will try and post pictures, but if you message me your email address, I will send you a whole bunch of them.
The asking price is a mere £700, but I will consider sensible (and serious) offers. Viewing is highly recommended, and I will take you out for a spin
PS: The car is in Colchester, Essex

UPDATE: After a chat with my Dad, and as I need the space in my garage asap, it is now up for grabs for £450 ovno. Drive away bargain!
If not sold by the end of the month, the local scrapper will give me £400 for it. I'd rather not scrap it, but desperatly need the space. Please save this car! email me for photos

Well im buggered. I never would have guessed that a little 1.4 Bx could weigh in at over 2 tons!!!! Last update from my local weigh in yard for "light Iron/cars" is at £175 per ton as of 10/1/11 .
I think i will drag all mine down your way and then open an offshore account for the proceeds.
If you talked sensible money you may have got it away by now. I was interested in it but not at silly money. Its not a DS or even a tin snail.

Perhaps what he meant was that the local scrappie fancies owning a bx to drive   Come one, we've heard this all before, last chance saloon etc in order to get a sale...

If you are desperate to sell, post up some decent pictures & you may get some interest & if not on this forum, try the various classic car websites & then failing that take a punt on e-bay.

Agreed. £400-450 isn't a bad price for a half-decent BX but do what you can to post pics because being a 14 it'll be a difficult shift...

But in all honesty it sounds like a good bet, as the Preview is rare.

But please post the name of your scrappie, as a result of the medication he's on means some here could be interested in showing him a BX or two?!

Im not gonna slag or moan, i will just say that my own st tropez (very similar model to preview) has done 74k with history is in very nice condition and cost me 250 quid. Previews and st tropezs on e-bay over the last year have made between 150-325 quid approx. Usually with a little tax and test.

Im not saying yours is overpriced, just that similar cars can be bought for less.

If you really seriously took it to weigh in then you should recieve about 130 quid at the moment for a car of that weight.

I would try a more sensible price if you really wish to sell it. I hope this is taken as friendly advice, as thats all its purports to be.

Ebay is the best way to sell a car quickly and it will find the true value, it would be a complete shame to scrap what is a rare car if theres not much wrong with it.

It has been on Ebay when the previous owner was selling it and that is where Gio,s Dad bought it for not a lot of money ,if you all remember. The previous vendor tried Ebay,Gumtree etc and kept reducing its price till it finally went for a few hundred quid if memory serves correct which in my opinion is its true value. Theres not many of us who like petrols and the especially the little 1.4,s as most prefer the diesels or the higher spec petrols like GTI/16v,s.Doesnt bother me as i feel all BX are worthy saves whatever engine/spec and yes it is a rarity but that doesnt always mean valuable.
Pictures would definitely help as would a more realistic attitude to its market value which lets face it guys and gals , were still just in banger money at the moment till theres more "classic " recognition to the majority of the buying public.

The 14 is a great car, £450 isn't unreasonable... If, it is as good as it sounds.

The problem with trying to sell a car on here is that most people already own BXs, or have been into them for a long time, and struggle to accept paying higher prices. If I couldn't afford to run a 16v any more, the 14 would be the one to go for. I had one as my first car, and I think enthusiasts often unfairly look down their noses at them.

At 450, yes it could well be a good car for someone. I hope it finds a new home at the revised price :)

Is it being driven or shipped to Africa? Bit of a desert for BX parts I would hazard.

I suspect that perhaps there is a lucrative market for old cars & they can be sold for quite a bit more than what they are worth in blighty.
