1993 BX 17TZD Turbo Estate For Sale

Post by Barrie James »

1994 BX 17 TZD Turbo Estate £150. Bought in 2007 to save it from being scrapped and it has been very reliable. White and rather tired looking, but still goes like stink. Has done 106,0000mls. Excellent tires, newish battery and front spheres. Some service history and MOTs since 2002. Hydraulics flushed and new LHM in 2008 at 100,000mls. MOT to April 15th. Will need cam belt soon as was last changed at 75,000mls in late 2002.

Also 1993 BX TXD Estate for spares. We've had this one since 1996. It's done 183,000mls and is still on its original clutch. Failed MOT in 2009 with severe rust in the N/S Rear wheel arch. It's very rotten. The other side is perfect. Still starts first turn of the key and doesn't burn any oil, must be the result of regular servicing as it's always been worked hard. This one's the freebie.

The down side is that they're on the Isle of Wight. Mind you its cheaper to go from the Island than to it.

I haven't any pictures, and to be honest, I'd be hard pushed to download them.

Hi Barrie - I'm a newbie on here but also on the Isle of Wight (and love BX's!!) Give me a call. I'm on the lookout for a couple of 4x4's but that might be some time before the right thing turns up. Is yours the one in Shanklin? I'll pm you my number. Regards Steve

No estates had sunroofs, unless its had a aftermarket "pop up" one added. Which would mean it probably needs new floors now lol

My white one has a (presumably aftermarket) pop-up sunroof. And the floors are fine!

As the gentleman said, no estates had a sunroof, and mine certainly doesn't. All it has on the roof, apart from the roofrails, are the protective strips to the rear section.

Hi all. I went to see Barrie yesterday with a view to a temporary estate BX until my 4x4's turn up. WOW! Barrie has totally undersold what is on offer here. Both vehicles have excellent engines, drive well and with a small amount of effort (more on the 19) will scrub up very nicely indeed!

The 17 needs a few little bits, nothing much and a bit of elbow grease. This will make a very good car for someone as is but has lots of potential. It drives very nicely.

The 19 is again in good condition throughout with the exception of the nearside rear quarter which has corroded badly and eaten a little way into the chassis as such. In my opinion this is an easy repair as the outer panel is in tact and you could fabricate a repair panel yourself from sheet steel and weld it in. about 150 quid max if you can't weld. There is an LHM leak from the octopus area but it still rises nicely and brakes are good so it could be driven to a 'pre arranged MOT'

Both cars in my mind would command in excess of £250 as they are and you can have both for £150!!

Barrie just wants them gone and I was indeed tempted. The only reason I haven't gone for them is they are too good for spares (I was thinking of parts later on when I have the 4x4 etc..) and really need re homing, aren't what I want, and I don't have room!!

If you can't get both then get a mate, get a ticket to the Island, and for about £100 each you can both drive home in a new BX. You can fight over which one is which though.

Good luck Barrie - hope they find a deserving home.

No - dim aren't I... however if Barrie consented I would gladly post photographs on his behalf - he's not far away and it would be no trouble. Over to you Barrie.

The TZD went for its MOT a few days ago, duff N/S Front Suspension Unit; duff O/S Rear Suspension Unit; both Front Brake Hoses; both C/V gaiters; Ball joint required on N/S. Plus both N/S electric windows not working, Driver's window not working properly. Exhaust suspect. The bits are probably OK on the 19TXD, but I've decided enough is enough and both have to go as they are. I've retained the Reg. from the TZD and they're both off when the DVLA send me the paperwork.

Thanks for the earlier interest but with the expense of the IOW Ferry it's not economic for anyone to retrieve them. Someone was quoted £160 return for a car and trailer! So in a few days I'll be BXless. The first time since 1990 without a BX and the first time since 1977 without a Citroen. The end of an Era! Thanks for all the support and companionship over the past years and I wish you all many happy years of Citroening.

Sad day indeed. Are you breaking them or just getting shot?

Philip,

I'm just getting shot, the chap who will be taking them off my hands will break them. I've been crawling under cars since the mid '50s and am finding it a real pain at present, all those years without a garage have been a real trial at times.

Fully understand. You had the good grace to offer them up here too, which is top ho', old chap.

Maybe if you could post up the contact details for the breaker, just in case?
