Visa Decap (free - ish)

Post by RichardW »

I know it's not BX, but you're all Citroen mad... 8)

I got the following e-mail yesterday from Bryan hughes:

"Richard
Dont know if you still have your cabriolet but mine is going free
if you want it. All welding done, and new panels fitted otherwise its off to
the scrapyard which will be a bloody shame with all its history. It is free
just want £50 for the 2 wings. If you are interested i will give you more
details.

The reason its going is due to a recent purchase of a C15D pick up and i am
overun with Motorbikes at the moment and i need space, car needs to go by
this weekend but will hold for another week. Car is mechanically sound and
the interior although not fitted is excellent. If you are not interested
please put the word around. car will need to be trailered away."

No room for it my garage, and on further contact it turns out to be in Tamworth, which is a bit far from Glasgow! Needs to be gone by Feb 4th. It would be a real shame for this to go to the scrappers - there are probably less (a lot less?) than 50 of these left on UK roads in RHD. If anybody's in a position to save it, then suggest you PM me and I'll give you Bryan's e-mail address.

I've always wanted a Decap, bet its less than 50 on the road, there wer eonly supposed to be 200 RHD ones anyway or something.

When i had my Series 2 Visa super X i was told the CCC only knew of 2 others.

Can anybody store it for the Club? So we can fight over it a bit later? Is it driveable? Any chance of getting it ready for the summer I wonder?

Please don't scrap it!

I'm going to be a few miles from Tamworth tomorrow so I could conceivably have a look! I know Ian Fearn's near too - and what about Mr. Leech? (Cummon lads!)

Oh that would be so nice - but Tamworth is too far for me. Enough space for a Visa at the front of the caravan though!

I know that it was slow, but couldn't the CCC website carry this one in time to save it. I'd love to but I'd get the spheres done if it were mine.

There`s a possibility I could save this, as in bring it back here to the unit. I doubt I would actually want to keep it (no disrespect to fans of these cars) but could keep it here a while I suppose until someone wanted to collect. This would require someone actually paying for the car and without meaning to sound mercenary also for the fuel costs and trailer hire, though dependant on date trailer hire may be free anyway.

That sounds like a good idea Cav

i might have some space in the near future and would love to have it

if only to sort it out and pass it on to someone who would treasure it

it’s far too nice a car to lose

Being so rare it`d be a shame to see it disappear, any takers?

Thanks for your interest guys - I' ve passed Brian's e-mail onto a few people, so hopefully someone can save it.

I think there were about 2,500 built altogether, and somethjing line 238 in RHD. I doubt there are more then 50 RHD left, and probably fewer than 10 on the road. Some of the work the Heulliez did when converting them caused water traps that rotted out the front inner wings, and in my case the driver's floor  Must get busy with that MIG!

I wish I could help. Work commitments and lack of funds in the near future to blame! Maybe once the restoration starts...

Ian, haven`t forgotten about you and apologies for not replying to your text earlier. This was due to being extremely busy and picking BX bonnets up from the outside lane of a busy bypass-ask Vanny!
4x4 still at mate`s house but should be down at unit by weekend, maybe, just maybe, tomorrow-I`ll let you knopw. Can`t see it being a problem you taking what you want off at Steve`s house as long as car is still pushable/winchable onto trailer afterwards.
Trying to negotiate a price to bring the Decap back, it`s looking like it`s going to be around the £80-£100 mark. If that sounds reasonable please let me know and I`ll have a word with Steve as he`s trying to get the trailer anyway.
