It will make no difference in the slightest, perhaps on a track day hooning around, but on normal roads, waste of time imho.

I disagree, I'm not sure of the route but some of those long steep ascents on some of the mountain ranges require maximum brake cooling.
We have trucks burn out a complete set of brake pads and discs just on one journey over / through Mont Blonc.

Trucks are slightly heavier than a flyweight bx

In all the years my dad had a bx 16trs mk1, never once on any alpine road or pass was there an issue with brakes, & he would fly up & down tem with the whole family onboard. Even in the cx which is a much heavier car, again no issues ever, this is in Switzerland by the way.

So a little jaunt over some mountains over just a few day's is no real hardship tbh, anyway's, you don't need the middle pedal do you

They are also late model Xsara hatches too, but will fit most 14" Citroen steelies. Most Saxos aere 13" though unless it was a Desire or Furio/VTR/VTS.

I agree, any benefit might be almost insignificant, but with a fairly well loaded BX descending with lots of braking for corners I'd like the combination of wider profile, good tyres, optimised cooling for the new discs and pads that will be fitted, lighter unsprung weight even? if possible.

Can't do any harm after all.

The car won't be wearing trims.

Just to settle this, those blinking wheel trims first appeared on the ZX, then later on the Berlingo and Xsara, never on a Saxo!

Phil, Xantia 14's are the same dimensions as the BX GTi steelies and probably offer better ventilation too. Definitely more obtainable!

Edwards has a set of 14" Xantia steels with good 185/65 14 Michies on them. These will be too tall for the BX.

I've been having a think. I'll retain the existing steels for use with the 175 profile winter tyres, (I won't need trims for those), and, as I still have a set of decent Goodyear tyres in 165 profile here, common sense (and financial reality) suggests I should just find another set of 5J steels for those tyres. I have those 'orrible 'pie' TGD trims that I guess I can refurbish too.

Otherwise I might be talking a min of £104 for 185 part worn premium brand tyres and an as-yet-unknown amount for good 5.5J steels.

There's another possibility: get the wheels and tyres from the Green Hornet...

Thats whats fitted to the TZI with no problems at all, they didnt catch even with the stuffed rear arm bearings.

You may notice a slight drop in revs at speed as the slightly larger circumferance, i went from 185/60 to 185/65s on the TZI (as I got a set of good Michelins for nowt) though and couldnt detech anything.

Erm, think of a BX with black steel wheels with round holes in them and voila!

You could fit 15" Xantia ones too but you would need lower profile tyres.

If you fit 15 inch Xantia wheels you have to be sure they are from a pre facelift ('98 model year) as they changed the offset from 18mm to 8mm so the late ones would need a 10mm spacer to fit.
