vacuum advance
I've just found out that the vacuum advance unit is broken on the 4x4. Does anyone have one they would sell or know where i could buy one? I've tried ebay without success. The distributor is bosch.

Re: vacuum advance
it should run ok with it blanked/plugged of,
pull the pipe off at the dizzy end and plug the pipe with a bolt,
i doubt a 4X4 has the get up and go enough to notice the lack of advance

Re: vacuum advance
It does run ok but i want more than ok. I know from my days using crypton tuners that the vacuum advance can make a huge difference to the running and fuel consumption of a car. The fuel consumption is pretty horrific and anything that can improve it is to be welcomed.

Have you tried Andrew Page Barry? They are the Bosch guru's in the North West.

Re: vacuum advance
A few thoughts............
You could try one of the ebay distributors, although not Bosch they would do the job until the right one is located.
If you are handy - or desperate, probably more the latter, it is possible to open up the vac unit carefully and make a replacement diaphragm from an innertube, well I have read somewhere a report on someone that has done it.
The vac unit does help quite a lot to give smooth running as well as economy particularly at small throttle openings so I fully understand why you want to sort it out properly. Hopefully the local Bosch agent will be able to supply you with a replacement, if not then there is always the main dealer !!

The Joy of BX with just one Citroën BX to my name now. Will I sing Bye Bye to my GTI or will it be Till death us do part.
Re: vacuum advance
are you sure the vac unit isnt working, you know you can test it by attaching a tube to it and sucking, you will feel resistance if the diaphragm is ok, and non if it has died/perished/split,
or if you have the dizzy off the car with the cap removed, you will see the innards move when you suck at the tube if its functioning correctly,

Re: vacuum advance
It's definitely not working i've used a snap on vacuum tester on it, the diaphragm must be split. I've tried many places up to now with no luck. Two of them have said it should be fitted with a ducellier distributor not bosch.

Re: vacuum advance
I managed to pick up a vacuum unit at the icccr from a french guy. I have now fitted it and the car runs much better, it's far more responsive around town. It was worth going just for that find.
