Is the auto carb different Tim. There was a solex carb on Leboncoin recently, but it didn't state manual or auto.

Yep... The auto carb has a double throttle cable spindle to allow for the kick down cable.

There could also be different jet sizes in different cars over the production run. The reason I know this is that Graham Wilson the GS/GSA Registrar tried a demonstrator in period as his wife only drives autos. The car was crap he says with major flat spot problems and the dealership said that yes there was a problem and the factory was trying to sort out the carburetor problems.Presumably it was fixed and one would want to know the final setting they decided on.

usually a flat spot is caused by moisture getting into the emulsion tubes, which is caused by the crank case breather blocked which creates droplets of water on the underside of the rubber carb boot/cover,

then this drips into the emulsion tubes below

The carb on my 4x4 is for an auto, the quadrant for the kickdown cable bolts on, also the auto uses a different idle jet which i had to change.

RE flat spots: Nowt to do with moisture in the case I quoted! This was a brand new car out the factory AND the FACTORY had a problem AND dealers had them in their showrooms. I can assure you many firms have had problems with flat spots with SOLEX and nothing to do with moisture, eg the original 911 where Porsche gave actually up and started to fit Webers and re-homologated the car. Interestingly fitting the Weber to early 911s is STILL banned by the FIA in historic racing for very early 911 and they list the Chassis/Engine Numbers which MUST run on Solex as originally Homologated and this is checked at scrutineering. In Historic Motorsport Solex are generally regarded as inferior.

I worked in a peugeot agent in 1986 and there was a brand new 309 1900 auto sold that kept coming back with a flat spot, it was finally cured by fitting a piece of flat plastic above the first venturi, the fuel consumption must have been horrendous but it worked.
