MK 1 diesel airfilter pipe needed for Mollie

Post by Mothman »

Anyone got one of these, the air tube for a MK 1 Diesel. Runs from a hole in the bulkhead to the airfilter. Mollie's is knackered, most of the internal foam was in her airbox which has all now been cleaned and filter replaced. If this is made from unobtanium, any suggestions for a replacement that will work?

Thanks,

Andy

Pretty sure there was one on Ebay a while back. There's not now, but it does suggest they are still out there.

I bought for the GT about 4 years ago, for about £20, something you are bound to see at an autojumble.
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

It seems that the foam inside the tube turns to dust and collects inside the air filter housing causing a right horrible mess inside. Ime kicking myself for not buying on feebay the bit of kit Ian mentioned but there you are, it might surface again sometime.
I suppose i could fit a K&N system, make the old goat go a bit faster!!

If you have access to a scrap bx, you can use the front heater vent pipe as a stop gap repair, o k. You will have to drill the holes using the old one as a pattern but it worked on mine

I see no reason why it wouldn't work, just make sure the air filter cone is well away from heat & gets placed somewhere where the best cold airflow there is in the engine bay.

Yup. That'll be fine as an interim fix. Might make a little more induction noise but I doubt you'll notice over the XUD rattle.

You should be able to get some suitable tube, which you would then have to drill the holes in. Even if it was available from Citroen I'd consider doing that considering the price they wanted. May be worth looking at heater ducting tubes as a source - I don't think 2CV ones are long enough but think there are some longer ones available for air cooled VWs.
