I remember seeing somewhere that the club had quite a few funds from those that contribute towards the site.

I spotted this on e-bay, would it be worth buying this for the benefit of club members who've contributed to this fund? They could then have 1st dibs on these parts to be sold at a cheap price to effectively refund the club funds with a little bit of profit on top that could go to a club nominated charity?

I understand that not every club member drives a diesel but if the funds are effectively returned back then a potential future purchase of parts may benefit other members etc..., however, the parts could be sold to the non paying members as a secondry source once the fund paying members have been exhausted & anyone going to the car shows this year to other citroen owners.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Job-Lot-of-7- ... 3f232d7204" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Even if we can't agree on this particular purchase, what about a committee of members for future purchases to help club funds, charity & members with cheap parts?

I think the idea of setting up a committee is an excellent one and has been discussed before. Perhaps it can be further debated at this years national, if not sooner.

It's a nice idea, but there are other issues to consider. Any project such as this has to be set up carefully in order to minimise any liability. It may even be that we may need product liability insurance in case a part sold on behalf of the club fails in service. The fact that any parts like this will be sold to members only, but if a faulty part is bought and sold on it could turn out to be a costly error.

I agree with that on balance. The idea of having a central bank of parts available to members is a great idea, but once you make it 'official', 'officialdom' inevitably follows in its wake ( liability insurance and all that guff that Mike has already mentioned). At the moment, everything hinges on goodwill, gentleman's agreements and good old fashioned trust. Believe it or not the whole world used to be run on those lines before everything got 'legal' and unpleasant. In short; if it ain't broke don't fix it!

edit; idiots seldom differ obviously Kevan?! :D

Committees are a sodding nightmare. I should know, I've been on enough of them. If you really want to spend five hours arguing about which type of logo the club should have...

The P6 Rover Owners' Club is run by one person, which seems a refreshing way to do it. Certainly saves losing hours of your life in a committee meeting every few months.

BX Club is never going to have the resources to buy stock like that. The only thing we can do is work with traders to ensure that they snap stuff up like this, and that we then buy it. It makes far less sense for the club to start competing with traders for the same business. These parts aren't going to vanish - they'll crop up elsewhere and yes, be more expensive, but then there are no worries about storage, management and postage if you're letting someone else do it.

I did raise the idea of having a more formal club - there are some aspects that would benefit from that approach - but perhaps it just needs one person to act as a lynch-pin - as long as they don't run off with our money or we'll become a lynch-mob...

Erm no, everything purchased is on the understanding that there is no guarantee, hence the very low price so if something breaks, then tough luck. If i sell something at a car show, there is absolutely no guarantee, thats why its sold for next to nothing, i'm not a shop or business, so i would have thought the club would operate like that, on an informal basis but with a few key members making sure it kinda looks after itself.

Perhaps some more thought into the whole exercise needs doing, lets not go down the route of having an AGM ;)

Not sure it's as simple as that when you're acting more like a company than a one man band. Then you've got storage. Then you've got logistics for sending the parts out - people won't to wait until you happen to be in the same field. Then you've got distance selling regs. It really is far better to leave this stuff to a bigger company, though I applaud your thinking.
