Wanted: Speedo head unit for BX19 Gti mark 2

Hi all,
Does anyone have a Speedo head unit for a mark 2 they can sell me? I thought the problem was with the cable but Speedy cables have just informed me that the cable is working fine.

Have you tried sticking a cocktail stick, or something similar, into the back of the speedo head - where the cable would plug in, and then spinning it to check whether the speedo needle moves?

No, iv not tried that. Il have a go tomo when i pick the car up from the garage, thanks for the tip

Could be the plastic speedo drive gearbox end thats gone.

The speedo will be the same from a t/d but tacho will be different and minus a few other gauges, oil temp and engine temp, should be able to make a good one from the two, bear in mind there are two different types veglia and jaegar check compatibility.

I assume a 16v would be the same as an 8v? I'll actually have to look and see what the make of mine is as well to see if its compatible. Do you need to change the whole set of clocks or can u just take the speedo one out of the unit?

A 8v and 16v clock set are the same except the redline on the tacho is much higher on a 16v.

Yes. Slightly more dismantling needed but not difficult. 16v red line is around 500 rpm higher IIRC so may not be a big deal for you if you swapped the rev counter too.
