bx19gt for sale as spares only

Hi I have a bx19 gt for sale as spares only. The car has done 68000 miles but it has had a reconditioned engine at 61000 due to the cam belt snapping. The car has not been used for several years as the hydraulic return lines bust and rather than repair it I bought another car. This was the best ride of any car I have ever had but due to the repairs needed to get it road worthy again and the fact I am more interested in motorbikes I will be scrapping it. As the car has been sitting next to a hedge it has rusted quite badly through the driver’s door pillar which you can see from the photo. The hydraulic return pipe leaks so it will not rise up and the tyres are rotted. Moving the car will require a set of wheels to allow it to be put onto a trailer. As can be seen from the pics it is an early bx, the seats have no damage or tears in them although they are slightly damp, there is also a tow bar on it. I have seen a 1400 engine on eBay going for £200 without the ancillaries so I am open to offers.

A D reg 19GT!! only ever seen one of them, its saveable if you have the time and inclination.

If someone buys it and want to part it out I would be interested in some parts.

Are the seat cloths okay? As in not worn through on the driver's seat or mouldy/rotten from long term storage.

Thats a shame that it was left for so long, mega low miles, but now only scrap value tbh It may have potential, but depends how bad that rust is, the A piller isn't looking clever

I know of about 5 to be honest, but they arent common. I only know of one other black one but thats a B reg car and has the earlier interior.

Restored it could be worth £2000+!

Hi I am located in Bolton near Manchester. The seat covers are damp but I cannot see any mold on them. If I was keeping them I would spray them with some anti fungal spray and leave them in a warm place to dry out completely just to be sure. I do not know the extent of the rust but unless you have a garage to work in I would have thought it impracticable to weld up, that's why I think it is only worth it for spares. If you have the facility's then it might be possible to fix it as I know the engine is a good one. I did think of putting this engine in a trike but again you need a good sized garage to build one in, this is still my pipe dream though. This was my second bx, prior to this I had a 1400 A reg one. I liked the quirkiness of the switch gear and found the switches seemed to fail after a year but they were easy to take apart and repair. After the gt failed I chose not to get another one mainly because they went back to switches on storks and it was the original uniqueness of the switch gear that attracted me to the car.

Asides the rusty A pillar do you know what the inner wings and boot floor are like, these are common rust traps on BX's and quite a few cars have had repairs done here and are easy to do if you know whats what.

Ive never seen a D plate GT before as the Mk2 (with stalk switches etc) came out in August 86.

Hi I do not know how bad the rust is on the inner wings or boot but I will try to have a look at these parts by the weekend. I know the rust on the A pillar is bad as I opened the door and the top hinge came away from the pillar. I looked at the seats and although I could not see any mold on them the floor has moss on the carpet due probably to the door not sealing or rust in the A post. Personally as much as I would like to see the car back on the road I think it is too far gone (for me anyway as you would have to be dedicated and have the resources) to bring it back to life. When I first laid it up I had every intention of getting it repaired but due to lack of funds and life in general I forgot about it until the need for a garage made me look at it. Unfortunately time has taken its toll on it and in my opinion it is too big a job but having said that I do know people who have built Riley's from nothing more than the original chassis and engine.

I aprreciate your honesty, as its a Mk1 and GT, and a low mileage one at that someone may want to take it on, the top hinge issue is common.

In this case, yes I think saving it is worthwhile. They don't even look that great in black, but when did you last see another one? D reg too....not normally into that kind of thing, but it's rare. I had to rebuilt the pillars on a GT - it can be done.
