Update: I bought a new old stock regulator mechanism - Kermit knew what to do with it and I now have a working driver's window. Spray bar no longer required - door mirror and decals sorted. Trims; dunno what to do at the moment. Front bumper blade fitted. Hopefully get the front fogs sorted, just waiting to see.

New headlights, indicators, rear light unit (would have been plural if they hadn't sent me two offside ones - and on nearside left :( but looks OK - got the side that really needed replacing) fitted.

Would like some plastic headlight protectors - as the headlights are brand new, so if anyone has a set they'd sell, let me know.

Thanks

In over 100k miles of BX ownership, never had a broken headlight or a chipped one, if they didn't reduce the light output i may be tempted, but alas they do, so i never quite understand why people fit them seeing as they are also more expensive to buy than the actual headlamps?

I would agree with you Matthew if i could but i cant tell the difference in light output with or without them. Havnt had any BX headlights holed but have had it happen to my Hilux and that wasnt off road. They would probably stop a lens falling out and i have had that happen, twice.

I actually think they look better without, but spending a fair wedge on nice new ones does make me a bit twitchy. Having said that I do have spare lenses for both so what am I worried about ? Lol and I've fitted +60% Philips bulbs and they're not at all bad....

I'd certainly fit them if i was travelling on roads which had the potential to kick up a lot of debris, but on normal roads around the UK i don't suspect they are really needed. Perhaps i mis-understood what you've said Phil, are you on about the amount you'll be spending on them, or on the replacement headlights? I'd personally save the money & put it somewhere else into the car to make it more reliable & lhm leakproof. After all of this, you'll be reporting back soon that you've bust a light ;)

I meant that after spending close on £50 for a brand new pair, I was wondering about 'protecting my investment'. However it's going to cost half that again at least to get suitably 'new' looking protectors, assuming I can find any of course. It'd be cheaper and ultimately more sensible maybe to buy replacements IF I ever need one. I have spare lenses - and headlights aren't that hard to come by. On the Challenge I might put clear helicopter protective tape on the fog lights (that I'll have fitted by then) but trust to fate on the headlights: or get some proper rally-style metal mesh covers made lol

I must admit, i would deffo fit some protector on the front fogs, they are more likely to get damaged & are way more expensive than the headlights.

I've got a pair of Peugeot branded fog light protectors. The 405 Mi16 has the same Siem lights as the BX.
