2 Front To Rear Hydraulic Pipes - Possibly Wanted

Post by David »

Hi all, I have finally removed the rear height corrector off my car that was leaking.

I've had to remove the 2 pipes that go all the way to the front as they wouldn't undo at the corrector with it on the car. They have some minor surface rust in places & one of the unions on one is quite badly chewed up, but they don't look rotten.

I could clean up & use the pipes I have removed, But I don't really want them popping when I've had them off & the one with the chewed up union would be awkward to undo again.

So, Could anyone on here make me 2 new pipes that ain't going to cost a fortune? They both go from the rear height corrector, one goes to the security valve & the other goes to the octopus.

Also just a little question - the pipe that goes to the octopus; Does it have to be metal or would rubber suffice? & does the long length of metal pipe reduce the pressure from the height corrector?

Thanks in advance.

If you would be interested we have in Poland company that makes full brass sets of pipes for BX, CX, XM etc.
I can arrange some pipes that you would need if it will help :)

Plaedies make them from cupra nickel which is quite flexible, just measure your pipes full length and they make them to size, f to b pipes about £15 each, rear caliper pipes usually corrode quite badly too.

Thanks for the replies.

I will look up Plaedies then. Are they internet based company or do they have shops all over the country (or both)?

The rest of the hydraulic pipes look fine. I replaced the 2 rear brake calliper feeds, all the suspension pipes on the rear axle & the front brake pipes when I converted the car to 4x4. If the height corrector wasn't leaking I wouldn't have had to touch any more pipes yet.

I got the last lot of pipes off the guy on ebay, But if I got these off him it would come to about £90.00, which is too expensive right now.

I have a piece of rubber replacing a damaged section of the low pressure front to rear pipe on Timex, but I believe that a similar repair on another car (I forget who's) failed the MOT this year for being an 'inappropriate repair'.

Pleiades are are an independent garage that make up pipes and ship them. Recently they've been on fire, getting me pipes within 48hrs (2 separate occasions). I find it best to call them and then they can take the payment details there and then.

In terms of length, if you can get access to service.citroen.com or a recent copy of the parts list (google 'SEDRE') then a lot of the pipe now state there length to the nearest mm which can be quicker than measuring.

With the cupronickel pipes being that bit more flexible, i normally add about 5mm/1m to the measurement which i find makes fitting that bit easier.

Agreed with that as above, a little longer is good, its easy enough to loose it somewhere by creating a slightly bigger bend or loop also makes it a lot easier getting the fitting in. Never had a prob with Pleiades always found them more than helpful.
