Usual request for alloys...

Post by Philip Chidlow »

OK my BX has had tons of work done on it recently and I'm down to the last dozen or so things that need doing some more intensive and expensive than others (fuel leak, fuel level sender, ABS, steering overhaul, rear brakes, speedo, welding, radio, etc. etc...) and so my thoughts turn to next spring when I might finally get a chance to spruce the old girl up a bit, cosmetically. So, the after market trims need to go and getting a good set of BX trims might be overly expensive, so I have to consider Speedlines too... I know they are uncommon but I still would like a set and would pay very decent money for a good set. I don't necessarily want to get them professionally refurbished if I have to pay a ton to get them in the first place, but anything round and balanced considered. 5.5Js preferred.

Alternatively a reasonable condition set of 'Z' trims might suffice (and save me a few quid) - at least for the time being.

I've got a few sets of anthracite 6J 16v wheels and I'm going to be selling at least two sets in the near future, but need to get them all together and go through them to check none are buckled etc.

OK Kitch, sounds good. Let me know when (if) you've got a good set - with bolts and centre caps too please :) - and we can talk about a deal. I guess I'd be looking at new tyres for that size, but I can always keep my new Michelin 175's on the steels as back up!

Cheers

Phil, you could quite happily run your 175's on the 6" rims as I did on my TZD to get the comfort ride back again as in this thread although for some reason my pictures have gone (not my doing):

I might not have any bolts spare, but I'll check. They've all got centre caps though.

Think I'd personally go 185 minimum width on the 6Js. I'm sure 175 is perfectly safe, but they just don't look quite right to me. The 5.5J wear 175 well though.

Well, I would probably fit 185 or 195 Kleber Quadraxer on them and keep the Michies for the ZX...

Once I have the wheels I can decide. But without bolts... mmmm could prove academic lol

Anyone got a set? Or offer a source?

I have 185s on my 5.5 speedlines and they fit just fine. Now, Phil, i have a set if 5.5s on my knackered Estate down in St Leonards complete with bolts and centres in ok condition.
However, dont know when i will be able to tow it back here. If you can wait, then you can have them but i cant tell you how long the wait will be.

Well as 5.5Js are really my preferred choice I would love to have the opportunity... I can wait until next spring if necessary. I could save money and fit the 175s on those just fine. Kitch; thanks for the offer, I might still take you up on it, but for the meantime I have to consider the 5.5" as frankly it makes more sense. (But when did that ever stop me? lol)

Oh I agree, 5.5's look much better on regular BXs. The 6's look a bit too chunky without the bodykit around them IMO

Believe I have a set of bolts in the workshop. Will take a look at the weekend.

Can I revive this thread...

I have a set of speedline alloys in the garage. I haven't had a proper look at them yet but they have darker centres so I assume they are 6j versions fitted to the 16v? I will confirm this when I next go to the garage.

The tyres fitted to my bx16 need replacing as they're all at least 10 years old and perished. My plan was to have the alloys reconditioned and new tyres fitted. From reading this post it seems the 5.5j speedline would be best for my bx. Would the 6js not look quite right on the standard bx? Or possibly upset the suspension/geometry? I wouldn't want anything wider than 185s really.

Any thoughts welcome.

I've fitted 6Js on my TZD Turbo with 185/60/14 Kleber tyres and the car's just dandy on them. :) They look cool. I prefer the Ph.1 GTi 16v silver ones.
