I've just had the front windscreen taken out of my 4x4 today so that i can attend to some rust creeping out from under the rubber. The windscreen is quite weathered so i want to fit a new one, but the firm i use can only locate 1 bronze tint screen from all of their suppliers (mine is green). I've looked on ebay but couldn't see any on offer at the moment.
Does anyone know a source for a clear or green tint windscreen? I don't really want the bronze one that's available but it might go soon and then i'll be stuck.

Erm, could you not claim on your insurance instead? That way a correct one would be located, i found the price of sourcing one myself, not a lot cheaper than just paying the excess on my policy, plus it gets fitted proffessionally & comes with a guarantee.

I don't like claiming on insurance even if it's genuine, never mind if it's not. I had the screen smashed on my txd a couple of years ago by a falling branch and just paid for it myself.

I've got a new clear one and a new rubber surround/seal. I think it's over in Tim's lock up at the moment. PM me if you're interested.

AA Windscreens can supply Green. They will also do it for your glass excess if you do choose that route. Check your glass excess but probably £75 and does not affect your NCB.

Whether it's legit to claim will depend on whether you have stone damage or similar present I guess?

Green and Clear screens are readily available. Local to me in Guildford, one independent (much cheaper than stuff like Autoglass) could do one while you wait, and in stock!. Around £165 plus usual. The Bronze ones (screens) are very hard to find if not near impossible, even the Frnch car glass sites/suppliers strugle with these.

As above, the AA seem to be able to source screens, especially rear screens better than most others.

try to source the rocking horse poooo ( OE filet rubber ) if you want the correct one with square corners,

as the aftermarket ones have rounded corners

I was on the presumption that the old one was damaged, so nothing dodgy about claiming for a replacement is there? Infact, if its so worn as to damage wiper blades & reduce visibility in certain light conditions, would you not be able to claim on your insurance anyway?

mother-in-law got windscreen changed on insurance because of excess scratches from wipers impairing visability at night,as far as i know there were no issues with insurance

Thanks for all the responses, i have ordered one from a company called express windscreens, (hopefully it will arrive) i will phone up on monday to see if it has turned up.

I've repaired my surround now, it's been primed and is being painted tomorrow.
One problem that has arisen during the repairs is I've wedged the front of the roof cappings up as far as possible with small wooden wedges so that i don't end up with a paint edge and under the os one i can see an open seam about 40 mm back from the front of the capping. It doesn't look rusty but the sealer has come out of it and it looks like if i poked a long wire into it it will go straight into the roof space. The seam is angled/overlapped so that water could only enter when driving forwards into heavy rain. I need to seal it but will need a long and extremely thin nozzle.

Personally to seal a seam like that, I'd be tempted to use structural epoxy (with colloidal silica to thicken) and squirt it through a syringe. Maybe a thin silicone/rubber tube/drinking straw to extend if needed.

Windscreen surround is painted now, i'm not sure i'm entirely happy with the colour match though. I'll get it out in the daylight and see what it looks like.
Still no windscreen yet!
