Free TZD radiator

Post by jackytwoshoes »

My TZD came with another radiator. It seems to have had a bit of a repair and I imagine that you'd want to recore it as I can't vouch for it's condition.

I'm going to skip it unless anyone wants to come and collect it from SE London.

These things are becoming as scarce as hens teeth, cant imagine why you are not keeping it as a spare. A rad specialist could easily repair it ime sure which would be cheaper than buying a new one, that is, if you can find one.

Indeed, with a TZD turbo I have kept a spare radiator as they seem hard to get. Its an off the road failure and its Russian roulette driving the car with a plop filled, or leaking, one for the head gasket, or worse.

I was lucky that Graham Haddon gave me his untrustworthy one. Some of these units seem to be not so well made and weep from the core/plastic side mouldings early. Annoying as the unit looks to have quite a bit of life. Yet in service, under pressure weeps. In this case I dried it out and then carefully went down the crimped joints sealing each one up in turn. You cannot get to all of each, so a gamble of wasting quite a bit of time. It worked and that rad is the one in Gary now. His original rad was full of deposits I cannot get out and tended to get to hot when pressed or in traffic. I still have it in case I get a clever idea..... The spare is from the car I am breaking, since the engine is falling out after el bodgo repairs.

Sorry for the slow response, I've since found some storage for the radiator so I'll hang on to it for now. Living in a small flat without a garage it isn't always easy to hold on to things that might some day come in useful!
