Wanted - BX GT wheel trim set

Post by Jugostran »

Hello!
I am slowly working on completing my 1989 BX 16 TRS. However, one key component is still missing - that being a set of original wheel trims. The BX 16 TRS could come with the iconic wheel trims from the GT/Digit. Incidentally, mine is one of those cars. The original listing had three of the four on the car. Unfortunately, the previous owner broke them when removing them :(
So, after two years of ownership, I am looking to buy a complete set of them (first picture).
The condition should be average. I don't want a set of pristine ones (as this car is a daily driver). They just need to look decent from a distance and have enough of the mounting clips in tact to hold them to the wheel properly. Worst case scenario, I can repaint them. Chevronics used to have some, but they were 30 quid a piece. I was hoping to get a set for a bit cheaper than that (40 quid for a set). However, if that doesn't work, I have a set of okay condition Mk1 BX wheel trims (second picture) that I'd be willing to trade for a set of the GT ones. And, finally, shipping would be to Croatia (I tried asking around here, but nobody has these trims on hand). I'd also be open to shipping the Mk1 trims in case of a trade!
Thank you in advance!

Ah, yeah, I have seen the all silver variant of the ones I have. However, on the adverts when my car was being sold it was pictured with the GT ones.
19 TRS, GT and 19 TRD (DTR) are the ones that almost always came with these. Also on that list is a few of the later special editions (some of these even had the rarer white variant of these trims) and the Digit. However, my car is a CIMOS (partnership between Citroen and TOMOS (Yugoslavian state-owned manufacturer most famous for their automatic mopeds)), and they did some things differently. For one, the cars (talking about BXs) were built in France, but final assembly apparently happened in Koper, Yugoslavia (Slovenia today). That's why these cars sometimes don't match specifications of cars finalized in France. So its not entirely out of the question mine could've been fitted with those trims from factory.
Pictured below is my car in 2020, before I bought it.

I understand your quest for originality but I do prefer the trims you already have even if they are not the correct ones 8)

I like them a lot as well! I'd just like to also have a set of the GT ones. I occasionally swap sets just to freshen things up a bit. For a while I used TZx wheel trims, but they fell apart. I still need to fix them up hah.
For now though, I'm happy with these TRx trims. Though, again, I'd love to get a GT set.

Those look amazing!
Yes, I am still looking for a set! How much are you asking for them?
I am also interested in the condition of the mounting clips. I hear they have a habit of breaking off.

Only one trim has the locking rim attached. All clips are intact and appear in good condition.

Okay that is excellent! Now, makes me wonder, do these need the locking rim in order to be mounted? I have never seen these in person so I don't know. According to the manual I saw, there was no locking rim.
Either way, I'm still interested.

Yes, you will need a locking/mounting rim for each trim. Postage to Croatia might be expensive too!

Ah. That's a bit of a worry. Those locking rims don't seem to be all too common. Not sure where I'd even find them. Also, postage is another concern. I'll have to think it over.

UPDATE:
I managed to (practically accidentally) source a set in the Netherlands. They come with their retaining rings so I will just have to glue them together and put them on the car.
Thank you everyone who offered theirs by the way!
I'll be sure to post pictures of them on the car once they come in.
