Post by Ian_Fearn »

A contact of mine who happens to own my old GTi Hurricane is after a BX. Reading between the lines a diesel estate would be good but anything thats a nice lowly spec would do.

The only stipulation is that its got 12months MOT.

Any colour, any condition as long as it runs, drives and has full MOT.

Must be cheap

Anybody got anything?

1.9 Diesel estate? When is he looking to collect? Cash waiting?

What is cheap? 12month MOT, i guess £250-£300 mark?

That sort of money sounds about right for a poverty spec BX with a years life in it.

He's a Citroen specialist that wants it for his workers to use as a van basically.

But should I offer my DTR Turbo Estate. Brand new MOT today, good tyres, solid, all there, most bits working, 200500 miles, possibly redundant as I'm training to be a driving instructor and will have to acquire a suitable car.

ZX 1.9D gets most use at the moment - nothing to choose between them on fuel but its only done 83,000 miles and feels like new to drive.

Estate is handy for us - and we would like to run a classic. Classic estate could be a solution - in which case the BX might fit the bill. Longer tem is probably to sell the ZX, get a sports car for fun and wife use BX Estate which in reality will cost a little more to run than the ZX. Sports car could cover if BX laid up in the short term.

Decisions Decisions . . . .

BX TZD estate 89,000 only, needs home

Post by richjenn »

Hi,
My 1992 Bx TZD estate has failed its ticket (still MOT'D till 17th Oct), basically on rear suspension arm bushes, but also some corrosion on mounting for same.
Otherwise a sound car, WITH THE MOTOR FROM YOUR DREAMS!!.
It has a Garrett turbo, Rotodiesel pump, genuine 89k miles, and it goes like a rocket - the fastest TZD I've ever driven, tractable from rest, and from 2200rpm it takes off like a Saab petrol turbo. Great for upsetting BMW owners at the lights!
A local car (Devon), it has served me very well for over 3 years.

My girlfriend has recently passed her test, and I bought another TZD and got it all tarted up for her, but then we inherited a newish Jap hatchback from a relative, and she prefers that! (oh ye of little faith - it's a tin can on wheels!)
So we have 3 motors, and having done up the other TZD for her, it makes sense to keep that one.
I would sort the one I'm offering and sell it with ticket, but I'm poorly and have been for a while, and don't have the energy, and am reluctant to spend out for a garage to sort it when a handy type could rebush it and get it back on the road for the cost of the parts and a bit of welding.
The garage estimate is:
For the bushes, £64.00 parts, & £152.00 fitting;
Welding of both sides £84.00;
Adjust headlamp aim £5.00.
and thats it - done - so you can see it would be great for a handy type.

So, what else is good and bad?

The interior is Very Tidy - a different planet from the old stretchy nylon ones - black velour, looks like almost new when hoovered!
Exterior scrubs up very nice (anthracite metallic), though its got its fair share of scratches and fades, also see below in downsides.
New Octopus 10k back - £300.
New alternator 3k back.
I have bills for accumulator, timing belt, cv boots, etc etc.
It starts first time every time, and astonishes with its parsimoney with fuel.
Rear parcel shelf present and correct.
Fair bit of history, I got the DVLA records when I bought it, since mislaid, MOTS back to 1998, and it all adds up.

Downsides: Someone hit the tailgate and broke the glass last Nov, so a replacement tailgate seemed the best solution. Found one in purportedly anthracite, arrived and is mid grey metallic. Put it on and meant to spray it up to match, but it looks so ok that haven't bothered!
The ns rear wheel arch was patched for last MOT, never sprayed in - and the window surrounds have done the usual BX fade to grey.
I've put the best tyres on the other BX, so the tyres are getting on.
The car was supplied with ABS - the unit was removed and I've been running minus it all the time I've had it. I've been driving without ABS since 1971, so I reckon I can continue to do so, and it works fine without, without having to panic about wheel sensors every few months! (It's passed its MOT like this without probs.) Unit is with car if you want to put it back -10 mins, just plugs in, and re able light on display
The handbrake is a bit feeble.
Clutch cable needs adjustment.

I reckon the car will go on for ages - but if you wanted an engine / gearbox, this would be ideal. Its got another 200,00 miles in it if it is like other TZD's, and you can try the engine out in the car and know how good it goes, which you can't do with one from a breaker!

I' d be delighted to discuss, advise etc, send me a private mail and I'll give you my phone number, and you can ask questions etc.
I'll send some photos if you want (got to work out how to use the digital camera!), and would be more than happy for viewings if you wish.
I'm in darkest Devonshire, 20 miles from Exeter.
Tax ran out 30 Sept, car SORNED at present, MOT till Oct 16th, as mentioned before.

Errrr... that's it - if I think of out else I'll post it. Thanks for reading this far.
