Unless I am missing the bleedin' obvious.
What rusts on a glass panel with a rubber surround?
Please tell me. Are there metal bits there too (which in my experience don't ever rust)?
Uh?

The glass panel has a mid steel surround, the rubber/felt looking stuff is attached to this, the steel bit rusts, swells, and the roof doesnt fit the hole any more, easy swap if the fastenings come loose Dropping the headlining/sunroof entirely is not too bad either, and you get to clean the drains too
