Whitchurch is reachable by train you would have to book a MOT and drive it.

Can get a train a week saturday for £13 one way, which is a darn site better than £46 the day before! or £93 first class!

Only thing is I need to get it MOTed so may pay the extra and bring it back beforehand or try and get it MOTed locally.

Or book it for an MOT the same day local to where you live (as you are allowed to drive a car without MOT to a test station).

I'm not sure this is strictly legal but you could argue that you want to take it to an MOT tester locally so you can go back easily for a retest if it fails.

Best of luck!

Depends on the copper...

I got caught with the GSA on the A1(M) North one Sunday by a tax-disc zapper. I explained to the officer that the car was on SORN and I was on my way to drop off my car for an MOT test at the GS Specialist Chevronics in Arlesey. He'd heard of the place, and in fact being a local Hitchin cop, they have some of their vehicles serviced there! So I was lucky, as it's a considerable distance away from my home!

Do they just look for the tax disc, or do they run the number plate to see if its licenced? stick in a valid tax disc from another car if all they are looking for is the disc itself.

I have looked on the internet & can find no reference to having to have your mot done locally to where the car is, infact it mentions that you can get your car mot'd at any one of the 19000 authorised mot stations.

I dont think a copper could do a thing, they could check the car to make sure that its roadworthy & presumably if its in a dangerous state they might be able to do something, but again unsure.

Found the following:

What’s a vehicle defect rectification notice? i.e a copper stops you
If your vehicle is defective, for example, one of its indictors is broken, you may be issued with a vehicle defect rectification notice. This means you have to fix the fault and provide proof, such as a receipt from a mechanic saying the fault has been fixed, at a police station.

NO NO NO! NEVER use a tax disc from another car. Thats fraud and is a criminal offence.

Driving with no tax disc is a civil offence.

With one you can go to prison, with the other, you cant!
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...
