I learnt the hard way mate.... well kinda, I stuck the tax out the car in my coach to "test run" it down the ring road before the Class V MOT (she hadn't been on the road for a while and I wanted to make sure everything worked), it was only because the copper was very nostalgic "I used to go to school on a bus like this son" that I didn't get hauled up before the beak!
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!
Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Right well a Long day today, up at half 6 catch the train at half 7, 5 hours later and 3 change I arrive at Colins, mind you for £13 it was good value.
First of all a BIG thanks to Colin for the car and to his mum for the tea and cakes!
As for the car, well considering its done very nearly a quater of a million miles its doing well, mechanically shes in fine fettle and drives faultlessly and made the 135 mile trip home without a hitch at a steady 70. As you would imagine with that miles its does need some TLC and I need quite a few bits (See wanted pages), the biggest job is that the osf quater where it join together in the door shut is rotten and has come away so may fail its MOT
The sunroof doesnt work which is odd as all the fuses are there and unbroken, also the map reading lights dont work! Ive had it to bits and checked all the connections but its still duff (any ideas?), the speedo although original has a mind of its own and sticks at 45mph and wont go back down again until you reset the trip meter (which works fine as does the odometer saying 246730 miles!)
Its had a powerful stereo in at sometime as there extra wires everywhere and the front speakers are now missing so I had to sing to myself all the way home.
Anyway MOT day Monday, will keep you updated.
Please look at the wanted bits and let me know what you have!

Theres nowt from the sunroof at all matey, ther map readings lamp bulbs are ok, is there a relay for the sunroof feed somewhere abouts? It opens and closes ok manually but Colin told me that one of the drain tubes maybe blocked and had overflowed which may have fried something? (am drying the carpet as we speak)
My biggest headache is that petrol filler, the cap/lock etc is there and works but the metal part that partially protrudes from the filler hole isnt so theres nothing for the lock itself to grab hold of and is held shut with gaffer tape! Ive had a look at my 16v and cant work out how the come off if at all! HELP!

filler cap
Tim,
if i remember correctly, the missing part is a steel pressing; it sits onto the outside face of the wing with a rubber gasket behind it. The pastic pipe neck sits on the inside face of the wing (likewise, but with the rubber gasket in front of it) & 3 screws clamp the whole lot together.
hope that explanation makes sense.
ref the radio not working - i completely forgot (genuinely!) that i removed the speakers a few weeks ago as i'd planned to fit them elsewhere. that was the time when i thought i'd have to scrap the car. the radio is only an old one from a ford, but with speakers, it will work. i recall though that the display backlight didn't work.
regards,
colin
