Try having a good clean up (esp on the back face of the pump pulley) and run it for a minute to find the weep.

If you get desperate I have a spare pump from a 16v (think it's the same but I'll need to check) It was noisy for 20 seconds on startup but was fine pressure wise thereafter. Not ideal but if you get stuck you can have it for postage!

OK BB, will do. Tim's having a look for a BX16 pump that would fit. It's possible that the 16v type like the diesel has only one fixing instead of the 2 needed for the 16 engine.

Nope, valver pumps have two lugs.
And although they mount on a fixed cradle on the gearbox on a valver, I seem to remember someone used a 100 pump on a 16v so I cant see why a valver pump wont fit a 1600...

Like teh Bandit said though, get it all washed off and clean, then try to locate the culprite..
Good luck!

Oh, and yes, your article on HC strippage and rebuildage was very good indeed!
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

thanks for the feedback amigos! - there were other photos to go with the HC thing that were missed out due to space constraints in the mag.

Tim! well done I knew you could magic up that pump! is it green or black? (just out of curiosity :) )

Thanks Tim, arrived today and I swapped it over. It took a fairly long time to change - I spilled more LHM than I thought was possible! The pump you sent works but I couldn't get it to prime at all and really had some trouble. It wouldn't supply enough flow to make the regulator click once! and the PAS was really 'notchy' at first. I thought that perhaps your one was even worse than mine at first! I had the whole after noon to change out the pump and then I was going to my sister's for dinner - I ended up calling her to say I'd be late (she understood - she knows me you see  ) but eventually the pump was allowing the regulator to click after about an hour of loosening and retightening the 12mm screw on the regulator.

I also didn't have my priorities straight as I cleaned up and painted the pump in the correct green before I fitted it

It seems to work ok but its pulley is bent! I made the drive belt very tight but the pulley had a fairly noticeable wobble to it! doesn't seem to affect the performance though. I wonder if it came from a car that was in a serious smash?

So thanks Tim for finding it for me - ace work.

Well after a day's use, the pump definately works better than the old one.
