Good to hear you have a "sinker" Tim :D My 1.9TD is a very early Xantia with the chevrons on the bonnet. These are pretty rare now. In a lot of respects they're a good one to have as they have very little in the way of electronics to go wrong.

Mechanically and hydraulically (except for being sans Octopus) they're virtually a BX in a different bodyshell and have wonderful things like FDVs!

I doubt mine is in as good a condition as yours Tim. Mine is due to get a restoration in the new year when it returns from long-term loan.

Are you some sort of Sadist Jim??

The one bloody excellent thing about Xantia's was the 6+2 pump.
The FDV was always a piss poor engineering solution to a simple enough problem.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Trust me my Xantia is a definite "10 footer" and is a ANTI SINK car sadly as I do still love they way they lift themselves up off their haunches.

A car that looks good from 10 feet away, but not from any closer.

Come to think of it, I can think of some girls that fit that description too, but at least that particular problem is cured with the application of a few drinks...

was wondering about that too! i have to say thats brill, i love it!

roverman! im sure if you search around you could find storage for it! gumtree is pretty good. if not, is there someone else on here with a bit of space? i know how you feel, i have cars parked up all over edinburgh because vandals started wrecking cars on my land a few weeks ago and i ended up having to put some cars on the road without tax etc to avoid them being destroyed, now im just waiting on the famous dvla van having a field day and clamping all my vehicles. as if losing a windscreen, 3 tyres, 1 massive key scratch, and one break-in wasn't enough. hope you find somewhere for it.!

Alot of what I say about the Xantia is just taking the piss.
Personally I dont really like them.
I'd rather have a proper Xantia, it's called an XM.
But as a blandish eurobox car the Xanty aint totally without merit.
I know enough people that like them, and ok, they're almost certainly all clinically insane, but meh, in essence, they aint all that bad.
They just aint for me. They were never a drivers car, and I like drivers cars. The Activa was a beast, but had a shit engine, and anyone that disagrees is wrong on this. The 2.0CT is fucking shit.
The 3.0 V6 24valve is a lovely, lovely engine, although the bottom ends are a tad fragile.
Either way, I shall always take the piss out of the Xantia, it replaced the BX and I prefer the BX (although the Xantia was built better without doubt) and I think the Xantia is a miniature XM to look at, and I'd rather look at, and drive, an XM.
So, the Xantia isn't for me, but, at least it has proper suspension, and still has chevrons, and compared to alot of other euroboxes from other manufacterers of that time, it is a good car.

There you go Dickie G, you may quote, feel appeased and be joyous.
BTW, I'm a tad pissed!

And I do my damndest to avoid hospitals. I spend enough time in them as it is!
And over the years I've used up all my stamps, and all of everyone elses on here!
So I hope you're all fit and well!!!!!!

Tim, please reconsider! You'll regret selling it.

There are people who'd love to take it off you hands but if they're in anything like my situation, the time of year, the 'credit cruch', general lack of money, time, garage space and the need to get the missus behind such a situation are all conspiring against actually seriously making an offer.

If you are selling the GT to raise funds, then I can understand why it might not be viable to sell the 16v instead... But why not sell the valver? There are more of those around than a sorted GT.

The GT is a tad intimidating as it's possibly considered 'too good' to use as an everyday car and to leave out on the street where it might deteriorate quickly. It would represent (in BX terms) quite an investment, so your market is limited.

If anything I would suggest sacrificing another of your cars to the cause...

Tim,

I fully concur with Mr. Chidlow here. You MUST NOT sell it and you will regret it for ever. I know from personal experience from letting my beloved 205GTi go in similar circumstances only for it to be written off six weeks later

We've been deliberately hijacking your thread for this very reason; to make sure you don't sell it!

I know your GT. It is special. you must remain its custodian.
Jim
