16 auto in silver - £150 or it'll be scrapped - runs great

Post by Charlotte »

We have had a sudden influx of BXs - sadly this car has tipped the scales and we cannot afford to house her unless we scrap her.

Silver 1600 TXS Automatic K plate. Needs a new windscreen (crack at very bottom, still intact, not smashed in so just about driveable home but not legal) tax and MOT. Drives beautifully and is surprisingly very tidy. Please save this car from the scrapheap - we'll make more money if we scrap it than sell it for this price but it really is too nice to scrap, and will make someone a great buddy. The previous owners got rid of her as they bought a new C3 :-& , she has no problems apart from what I listed above.

£150 ono

Good luck Charlotte, all i would say is that £150 for a 16 petrol with no T&T is quite a mountain to climb, purely as they arent that popular. I would say start at £50 an go from there.

It's such a shame as this is a really nice car. I think Phil would probably take 100 for it, but you're absolutely right - finding a buyer won't be easy.

You can guarantee a sale but putting it on ebay with no reserve and a very low start, giveit a wash, take some nice pictures etc and you may get lucky!

Charlotte, so you'd take a £100 for the car, or £50 scrap??? Why not offer the car for the price of scrap, that would seem fair to me as its going to get cubed anyway.

I imagine the car would be dismantled, with the used parts being then offered for sale? And consquently (but only in theory) be worth more than £150 total.

But we all know how hard it can be to even give parts away (interiors spring to mind). Who would want to buy the engine/gearbox? The doors might fetch something if they happened to be the right colour for someone who was in need of them, and so on. It's conjecture.

An option might be to T&T it, (replace the windscreen of course!), service it and give it a bit of a valet. Might get a reasonable sum - maybe £350-450 or more. As it is, whoever takes it on is faced with instantly having to get the windscreen replaced before anything else. Hassle and expense.

Sell it for £50 as suggested above, and get shot. IMHO.

I read it as Medway will take £100 for it or else they'll scrap it and keep/sell the bits.

You've got it right, bandit /\

We actually make quite a bit on BX bits, good interiors go quite well as it goes. I'm just soppy about cars that run fine and look nice. Plus I think BXs have sweet little faces, and plaintive eyes. There will be tears! I'm such a prat!

No you're not! Rather oddly, the BXC could be a difficult place to sell a BX by virtue of the fact that most on here will already have a BX by default! Ebay certainly has a huge captive audience so it may be worth listing the auto a few times before signing the death certificate!

I bought my 16v with a cracked windscreen so there are suckers out there who'll buy it!!!! :P
