More? Yes. Substantially more? Maybe not. I reckon around 30-35mpg compared to a TD of around 45mpg.

Got a smaller tank too, so the range is less but whats the price difference between diesel and petrol these days. Economy talk; the 14's out, but realistic money talk; the 14 rocks! Add the saving on tax and insurance and 14 FTW.

(TU this is....not suitcase. That was awful!)

Only thing the 14 really loses out on is spec if you get a TZD, but then these bits can be retrofitted from donor cars.

I'm done with trying to tell people what they want anyway! Carry on :P

I'd like a diesel, because they're more reliable, better on fuel, and they sound much better! Not to mention a turbo would be useful for potential tweaking ... my decision is made. TD FTW

More reliable? Don't asume so, TU's are bomb proof.

Better on fuel? I'll hand that one to you

Sound much better? You on crack?! It's a diesel! 2CV's sound better!

Turbo is useful for tweaking yes, but when your rev band is tiny and your gears long the end result might not be as great as you wanted. You have to go to Doc levels to make a TD quick, and then it just blows up alot. :P

But thats just my two cents. Everyone here has them, its just only a select few chose to stick them in where they're not wanted! :P

Despite being biased towards the TD (owning one myself!) I wouldn't knock the TU. Never driven one in a BX, but I've had experience in various 205s. Cracking little engine, especially the TU3S, thrives on revs and is dead easy to work on, especially on the relatively large engine bay on the BX. And I'm not usually a fan of 4 cylinder engines!

The one thing I dislike about a TD is the way that you run out of revs just as they feel like they're getting going, the whoosh is over too soon. Bit like premature...no, better not go there.

Quote of the bloody year that!

Tis true aswell, a diesel will never sound, er, good.
I mean, I love my diesel, I've had it 11 years, I'll keep that car 4EVAH, but the noise does not make me nurse a semi, whereas the valver on full chat is the soundtrack to the most mindblowing sex you'll ever have.

Even the TU minus the mid box sounds fruity.
But diesel powered BX's will always sound, er, like, er, diesel powered BX's.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

I own a TVR V8, and used to own an Alfa V6, and I still don't get bored of the way the valver howls down the road, or the tuts I get from people who are too old or boring etc!

Although my valver on regular driving does indeed sound worse than a diesel. Not just a diesel BX, I'd say it sounds worse than a diesel Nova!

I still think the diesel sounds better than the petrol, the diesel sounds like it gurgles, the petrol sounds like a tumble dryer with a few loose nails thrown in, although it's not as bad as the Ford engine you find in the the Fiesta, and the Escort.

By the way, did any diesels come with leather seats? Me want leather seats.

Which petrol did you drive?!

Leather wasn't standard on any BX. Most likely to find it as an option in the Tizzydee but the majority of leather interiors were fitted to GTi's and valvers. It was horrifically expensive IIRC.

As far as I can tell from the brochures I've seen, it was only ever an option on the GTi, GTi 4x4, and 16 Valve. And cost around £1000 as an option!

Although if you are very lucky, you might be able to find a decent set second hand, but I wouldn't hold your breath - especially if you want matching door cards. I've seen 2 interiors on eBay in the last 4 years, neither especially good condition and both without door cards.

I've still got my eyes open for a decent BX ... now it's looking like I'll have to wait until next week, or the week after, because my car needs to be sold!

The ZX is not a popular car :(
