Gti Wheel trims

Post by DS Andy »

I lost a wheel trim for my 1986 8v Gti before Xmas, and am now really fed up of looking at one dirty steel wheel.

Has anyone got any spare Gti wheel trims they don't need? It's the design with the black squares on it.

Ta.

I "might" have a spare one. Will have to check. Is it just the trim itself or have you lost the retaining ring from the wheel too?

Hi Philip :!:

I've just logged in for tonight's session on the Forum :!:
But as I was still posting @ 2:30 am this morning (Re:- ^^bx> technical TXD turbo?) I'm only hoping to be on for 45- 60 mins tonight :!:

Philip Wrote:-

I know where there's a set of four: Mr 'RxBx' on this very forum believe...

He's absolutely 100 % CORRECT and there in VERY NICE condition =P~ :!:

I was going to store then away in the loft space for a while (months, years who knows as they don't take up that much space and are fairly light) and see if they caught up with the price of GOLD in years to come

So IF someones does want this VERY RARE nice set before I DO store them away I may consider ONLY very serious offers :!:
(as there NOT cheap to buy new, ROVERMAN has stated that they cost £35 pound each ! I'll also check the local main ^^ ^^ dealer myself).

DS Andy :!: Possibly good news for you, if Jayboy does not have one :?:

I actually have FIVE I bought a spare one for the set of four I've got, so if no one PM's for a set of four (or four + one as a spare) dependent on
if I get any response/serious offers in ? I may be able to help out but I'll shall leave it a few day's to see what response comes in first !

Just spotted 'Mulleys' comment yes that could well be true but everyone does NOT like alloys as they tend to leak on the rim, especially when they age or get damaged by some tyre fitters etc.
Also on the XM Forum site one member absolutely hates alloy's (One mans meat could be another mans poison) no offence Mulley :!:
I like both dependent on how or what what they look like on a particular car :!:

Check this link out to give to an explanation of what I mean:- http://www.bxclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9965

Thanks again Philip for the plug.

Wheel trim

Post by DS Andy »

Thanks guys!

I lost the whole damn trim and ring! After replacing some lovely LHM pipes behind the wheel I didn't refit it properly, and lost it somewhere between here and there. Despite much searching....

So, £35 is what they cost on ebay.fr etc. If you can beat that I'd be pleased, my DS ones are less than that and made of stainless steel. But they don't fit the BX!

If you do have one to sell let me know, ta. No hurry though! And if anyone has a nice radiator too....mines a bit leaky where the plastic header meets the rad.

If you're ok with the price here's a trim.

gti trim

Post by DS Andy »

Thanks Tourist!

But mine is different - perhaps not correct Gti ones - mine have 4 large squares on them, with two black stripes in each square. :(

Does that make sense? Here's a pic of some other guy's BX with the wheel trims I have! Scroll down.

You've got the earlier GTi ones, those were late GTi/TZD Turbo hatch trims. You're were also fitted to Pilot ltd edition models, but you won't find one of those either.

Speedlines FTW. Speak to DLM, he as a nice set up in Doc's barn IIRC. They were optional on the early GTi afterall.

A plan is forming... I do actually have a radiator for a GTi. Nearly new too. Think it did about 300 miles between being fitted and both front door hinges falling off in quick succession and the new starter motor I fitted packing up.

I was intending to fix her up being the first BX I really did any miles in but space was at a premium and she ended up cubed. The wheel trims were bought in order to return her to factory spec along with the GTi interior I have lying around somewhere....

I'll be back on here later confirming if I have a spare ring for my trim.

The earlier style GTi wheel trims are (unless a dealer has one on the shelf somewhere) no longer available. The official replacement solution is to buy a set of four from a base model C3 and fit those instead... :(
