Michelin MXV tyres?
Michelin MXV tyres?
I'm looking to buy some summer tyres for the 16v as it's only got a winter set.
I've got the registration papers here in front of me and the TÜV has written : only to be fitted with Michelin MXV 195/60VR14! Someone got a backhander or something!
My last encounter with the TÜV proved them to be a right bunch of 'raisin shitters' and I don't want to stand there and get a fail certificate for that crap. So either I pay them probably in the region of €35 to change that ( if I can) or I fit some Michelin MXVs. Problem is, it seems that no-one stocks them - does anyone know if they're still available/ any good/ how much?
I could probably get away with the word Michelin written on each tyre and there's available - used - some 'Energy' or 'Classic' - anyone know anything about either of these.
Also does the 'V' in the tyre description above denote the speed code? I know that 'H' is up to 210 Km/h and 'V' is above that but I don't think I'll be tooling around over 210 too often!

EHHHHHH TUV can actual specify a make of tyre, that sounds like absolute balderdash. As long as the tyre is the correct speed rating & size, thats more important than the make. I'd look into this a bit more, to clarify, i wouldnt fit michelins in anycase as they are expensive & not that good anyway...

Yes Mulley, you're right. I must look into it. Perhaps when the 16v was new Citroen/Michelin bribed someone to get that ridiculous stipulation printed on the reg papers.
There must be a way round it having seen all the slammed, tweaked, fattened Bimmers and VWs rolling around obviously not with original tyres.
It's just since that alloy wheel palavar I had with TÜV - proving they were suitable for the TRD and paying for the honour - I approach them with caution. Better to drive in with stock steelies, then when you're round the corner fit the 17" chavvies!
I have to go there to have the Katalyser verified on my TRD ( don't ask, it's a bureaucratic hell-hole) so I'll try them on this tyre bollox.

Re: Michelin MXV tyres?
The MXV has not been available for a few years. The replacement for this that I use and find good are the Mitchelin Energy.toddao wrote: I could probably get away with the word Michelin written on each tyre and there's available - used - some 'Energy' or 'Classic' - anyone know anything about either of these.

I have Michelin Energys on my GTi auto too. They're good. But I have to agree they're not the quietest tyre around.Way2go wrote:The replacement for this that I use and find good are the Mitchelin Energy.

I have MXVs on my BX.
I have been using this type of tyre for many years, and I am very pleased with them.
I expect there are plenty of other tyres that are every bit as good, if not better. Tyre technology has improved.
There were Michelin energy tyres on my 406, when I replaced them with another brand; the grip was much improved, but mpg fell.

Toddao, good luck with the TUV guys. I'm picturing them as zombies mummified with red tape. if the tires are no longer available then...?
Does anyone know are the Michelin 'energy saver' the same as the 'energy'?
I'm wondering what new ones to get for mine. Klebers, Uniroyal, Continental? I want soft and quiet... I'm really trying to manifest my ideal woman in my automobile...

Hmmm...I can think of at least one quality you'd want in an ideal woman that you definately wouldn't want in a tyre.maxgreenwood wrote: I want soft and quiet... I'm really trying to manifest my ideal woman in my automobile...
I'm happy with the Vredesteins as well, another brand that has had good reports on the BX is Uniroyal.
Todd, all I can say is move back over here...the situation sounds crazy! Best of luck.

what about ones that just keep on giving a good supple grip and what about ones, especially, that squeal round corners?Hmmm...I can think of at least one quality you'd want in an ideal woman that you definately wouldn't want in a tyre
